DH is in surgery

DH is currently in surgery, and I'm a little freaked out right now. I didn't realize until this morning that they'll actually be replacing three ligaments and drilling into all three bones in his leg. And the anesthesiologist explained that he's only done this particular type of nerve block twice before (in his 20 years working here).

I just keep telling myself that DH is young and healthy and in very good hands.

  • Prayong for you guys and for the doctors. I am sure everything will be fine but it is still scary. Please keep us posted. How long will he be in hospital or is it out patient? I think you said before but how long to recover from this? Thinking of you guys. Hugs

It's actually outpatient.  He's still in surgery (going past 4 hours now), but once he's awake, they're sending us right home.  We come back tomorrow for his post-op appointment.  He'll be missing work for a week, and he'll likely be on crutches for the first month (or possibly two).  We did learn this morning that they're giving him a "continuous passive motion" machine to take home, so his rehab starts almost immediately.  The goal will be for him to be able to bend his knee 90 degrees within a week!  That shocked us.  We were a little worried he wouldn't be able to bend his knee far enough to sit in a plane seat to go to Ohio at Christmas.  He'll also be doing physical therapy two or three times a week, starting in 3 or 4 weeks...and that will go for four or five months, I think.
