We all know I'm not crafty or DIY-y, right? But, I pretend. So my door is getting painted and the hardware is mostly brass. The lock was ORB, the knob and backplate brass. Long story short but can't get a new modern set, have to keep the big backplate so followed a tutorial on YHL to spray paint everything ORB.
Fantastic.
Here is the exterior done (note, actual door not done yet, obvs):

Looks pretty good I think. One small brass area around 10PM on the dial that I think I can fix. Sweet.
Now, let's take a gander at the interior - which I wasn't even freaking going to do....
ZEBRA KNOB! I mean, really. The thing on the side I didn't even see in the pile of stuff they took off the door and the knob. Oh the knob. The button and the "collar" were all attached to the exterior knob. But, like I had it standing up in cardboard so I could get all around it and there were parts I didn't see. Grrrreat. It's so absurd looking it makes me laugh.
Re: D&R Laugh @ My Expense
LOL. Good news is, it's really easy to take a doorknob off and put back on yourself.
So, how does the door look? What color did you go with?

Is it easy? It looked very complicated and took the guy FOR-EVER to get it back on so that's why I was freaking a little.
The door is all sanded down (like in the pic) and ready to paint. They're doing it tomorrow. I went with Benjamin Moore Raisin Torte.
Hmmm, well, I replaced the knobs/locks on our house when we moved in, and I didn't think it was bad. But maybe because yours is some kind of vintage model, it is more complicated? I don't know. It's funny that he wouldn't have been like, "Do you want these parts GOLD?" when he was putting them back on!
Will he be taking the hardware off again tomorrow in order to paint? You'd think he would, but who knows if he really will.
The other option is to somehow block off the surrounding area (tape a light plastic tarp to it) and spray paint it right on the door. For those little areas, I don't think it would be too bad.
