Thanks, ladies, for your thoughts and prayers!! We're home now. Everything today took longer than they expected, but overall, everyone kept saying that the surgery went well and that DH was just fine.
Basically, I think there ended up being more damage in there and it just took the doctor longer than he expected to do the procedure. Then for whatever reason, DH took awhile waking up, and even once he started waking up, he was super sleepy and nauseous. They wouldn't move him to the "step two" recovery area where I could join him until they got the sleepiness and the nausea under control (which is good). So whereas we were originally told that we'd probably head home around 12:30, I didn't even get to go upstairs to see him until 2:00.
They gave him a double-nerve block, so his entire leg is completely numb right now. I think it makes him nervous, because he literally can't feel it or move it at all. The anesthesiologist warned us that it would probably be really disconcerting, which it seems to be.
We also have a practical pharmacy of multiple heavy-duty pain killers, which is both good and a little scary (because how much pain do they expect him to be in if they sent us home with that much stuff?!).
So that's about it! I actually have to take him back tomorrow morning for his post-op appointment.
