I am conflicted about this and I need some input. For the past few years, I have been trucking along in winter wearing my ubiquitous black flats (like these) with trouser socks. I have suddenly become self conscious about this, though, because I don't see a lot of people doing the same.
Am I a nerd? Should you not wear socks with those? I wouldn't wear socks with ballet flats, but I feel like these, and the other black flats in my shoe stable, are a little more substantial. And I try not to wear bulky socks - mostly thin black trouser socks.
Last year I did this with khakis and I've vowed not to repeat that because I do think khakis+black socks + black flats look odd. But what about gray pants? Jeans?
Help! This is taking up too much of my meager brain power. I have recently purchased some low heeled boots and whatnot to try to avoid the issue, but they just aren't as comfortable as my beloved flats. Any suggestions on flats that *are* okay with socks are welcome.
Re: S/0 - What kind of flats *can* you wear socks with?
No you aren't! I wear knee highs almost every day to work and I love them.
I agree with the others that I wouldn't wear trouser socks with shoes like that unless they are more like a loafer style. However, I do love those shoes and I may have to get myself some.
Whew! Glad to find out I'm not the only one
I literally bought those shoes in brown last night online, and am eagerly awaiting their arrival. Glad to hear you like them, which I assume also means they are comfortable!
I also appreciate hearing from other ladies what kind of socks to wear!
I'd probably wear knee highs with those (add me to the I-still-wear-knee-highs club).
I wear trouser socks with more of a loafer-style shoe.
You guys! I've worn those shoes with socks to GTGs! WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELLLLLLLL MEEEEEE? And VARedhead - they're crazy comfortable. I adore them. Mine are pretty much worn out, not from poor quality but from constant wear.
Okay, what about these? Would you wear socks with these? Or would you not wear them at all because they're nerdy?
If you've been on this board for awhile, you may know that I seem to have an annual black flat post. Evidently, this is it. Although, I prefer the above in gray.

Okay, first of all, I don't really look at other people's clothes or judge them because I'm fashion-challenged myself. I only judge if someone is wearing overly-slutty clothes to work or a velour track suit in hot pink for casual Friday which I assume you don't do? LOL.
Also, I'd like to request that you stop posting links to shoes that are so great and which make me want to buy them. Those most recent shoes are also really nice. However, for me, I'd still probably stick to my knee highs for those shoes.
For shoes to wear trouser socks with, I usually stick to something that comes up higher on the top of the foot more like this.
None! No socks! I am anti-sock except in the most extreme cases (under boots, at the gym, etc.).
My vote is no socks, sorry. But I have seen people wearing them with thinner socks (maybe trouser socks/knee-highs?) which I guess looks OK. Maybe some patterned knee highs?
And yeah, khakis + black socks + black socks is a no-no. Learned that from DH :-) Gotta go with brown or something there.
