Kardashians are making a lot of friends this week

Kris said on the Today show that she hoped Kris H wouldn't be an "Indian giver" with the engagement ring.

Yikes.

  • Besides the whole politically incorrect "indian giver" thing...

Doesn't she have to return the ring? She left him, so he gets the ring. Certainly since he's all but begging her to change her mind.

I'm pretty sure the ring was donated or sponsored by E! so I'm really not sure what should happen to it. Sell it and give the money to charity?

Oh, I think she should be making a lot of donations.

But I mean, strictly etiquette-wise, since she's the one who left, she has to leave the ring with him, right?

I'm honestly not sure. I've heard that in the case of such a short marriage, she should give it back, but I've also heard that since it's a gift, she should get to keep it.

I think it's only a gift if he proposes on her birthday or a holiday.

Regardless, there is zero class going on in any of this divorce business. These people need to deal with their sh!t and stop speaking through the media.

i thought that was only for engagements?

  • The ring is hers (unless E owns it and it's all for show), Engagement rings are gifts unless they are family heirlooms. She SHOULD give it back, but she legally doesn't have to. Also, there's no way in hell he bought that ring anyway. Either it's borrowed, the network bought it, it was given to her from the jeweler, or she bought it. Kris having purchased it is the least likely scenario.

  • On a different but somewhat related topic..... I heard that she is keeping the wedding gifts and donating $200,000 to the dream foundation which helps terminally ill people.  The $200,000 can be a tax write-off.  I figure her donating that is like me donating 5 bucks.

This 100%.  If she was smart she would give the ring back.  He's out of work right now and that two million dollar ring could make him some major money.  Although since the wedding was a sham I'm guessing he's making some decent money for playing Husband #2

That's what I always thought.  If she breaks it off, she returns the ring; if he breaks it off she gets to keep it.  But I think I agree with a PP that E! paid for the ring, or at least some of it as part of the package for the whole wedding publicity thing.

That's only during the engagement, though.  E-rings are conditional gifts, the condition being that you get married.  Since they did get married, regardless of how short the marriage, I think she's in the clear... but it's still crazy tacky to keep it.

I think it's pointless that we are even discussing this because I seriously doubt Kris paid for that ring. Either E! paid for it or whoever made it gave them a gigantic discount.

I was not a fan of what she wore at all.

  • The ring was a "gift" (i use that term loosely) for her. Therefore, I do not think she should have to give it back.

Yeah, he's out of work and broke and this ring, if he can even make a fraction of what it's "worth" off of it would help, but he was stupid enough to marry her- make your bed, lie in it. KWIM?

The NBA freeze would have happened without or without KK so where would he be if he never met her? Right where he probably is now.

Engagement rings are conditional gifts, i.e. they are gifts in comtemplation of marriage.  In most jurisdictions, if there is no marriage, the ring goes back.  So etiquette is irrelevant.  Because they did, in fact, get married, she lived up to the condition of the gift, so she should be able to keep it.

As PP said, I'm 90% positive that E! bought her ring, not Kris.  Gross.

  • Obviously I am not sure how true this article is but it says that Kim has plans to give back the ring to not ruffle too many feathers.

  • Why is she not returning the gifts? Hmm

I don't understand how donating money to charity instead of returning the gifts makes any sense.  Of course, I don't think much about the Kardashians makes any sense anyway...including why anyone cares about them.lol

Um, no. I left my ex. I sold my rings and told him to eff off. She doesn't have to give the ring back to him. Now, if E sponsored the ring, that's a whole 'nother story.

Why? If she doesn't owe the ring back to Kris, why would she owe it back to E? Also, in your case Laner, no, I don't think you were obligated to give the rings back, but KK has basically said many times that she wanted to call off the wedding but wasn't sure how to once the ball was rolling. So basically she just waited until they were married and then files for divorce as her way out. In my opinion, that's a wedding under completely false pretenses. She didn't really intend to honor it and in that case I do think it's very tacky not to give it back.

  • MrsP7309 is right.  It is a conditional gift in contemplation of marriage.  If there is no marriage then the gift should be returned.  Since they got married she can keep it.  But if Kris H really paid for it then I think that the ethical thing to do is return it, given the short length of marriage.

  • My local radio station played clips of an interview with Kris (K.) from earlier this week.

Apparently the ring "did not cost $2 million". She said it cost "maybe half of that, but she doesn't know for sure because it isn't her business". (Ha, right.)

She also said that the wedding was paid for by Kim and they didn't make anything close to the $18+ million that's been quoted in gossip magazines. She said they made a small amount selling photo rights. (Ha, right.)

  • I just don't understand why she would want to keep it. It's not like she needs the money and will sell it. If it were me, I would've already returned it.
  • From what E! has stated the ring was purchased by Kris H with his money.

Secondly, he isn't broke just because he isn't playing basketball doesn't mean he isn't doing other things. For one he has a bunch of parties to host in Las Vegas which pays a pretty penny. He has been swamped with endorsment deals, and he comes from a wealthy family. His father owns a chain of fast food restaurants and other misc. business.

She might want to start keeping a notebook of her statements. Earlier this week she adamantly claimed that they didn't make a DIME on the wedding for anything.
