Thanksgiving out?

This year, we are debating whether or not to attend Thanksgiving at the in-law's. It's been done for the past 2 years and we could both use a break, but we don't really want to cook - have any of you tried going out for Thanksgiving in years past? Any suggestions?

Re: Thanksgiving out?

  • had we not been invited to my bff's for thanksgiving in 2009, our plan was thanksgiving dinner at tabard inn

  • I've never gone out, but last year our ILs did the Wegmans thing where they put together the entire dinner for you, and it was really good.  I think it was like Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green beans...the usuals.  I don't see anything about it on their website, but when I googled it, I saw other reviews that had a good experience.
  • my daughter works at Clyde's (in Reston, but there's one up by you) and every year, they are PACKED - SOLD OUT on Thanskgiving, all day. You pretty much have to make reservations to ensure space at a reasonable hour, but it's a great meal.

  • We were moving the weekend after Thxgiving last year, so we went out.  Went to J Gilberts in McLean -- great buffet, delicious food,a nd packed!!  It was a nice change.

  • lots of restaurants have Thanksgiving dinners

we buy ours, we've done Boston market and harris teeter before, not sure what we'll go with this year; Wegman's would be good but they are a lot more expensive than any other store

  • We haven't ever gone out, but have done several years of Boston Market.

Pre-kids, we busted out the nice linen and china, lit candles... it was all very nice, and the food was good enough that we didn't feel deprived of The Thanksgiving Meal. Last year looked a little more like this (and yes, that's a box of diapers my food is sitting on):
