Hey ladies!! It has been one crazy week. I am trying to update quickly for I am sure that Vinny will be up soon and ready to eat!! I am fairly positive this is the first time that I really have been able to be on the computer :-)
I went into the hospital last Monday night to be induced. They started an IV and started me on a low dose of PItocin. I supposedly was having contractions over night, but they were very mild and I didn't really feel them. At 5 in the morning the upped the Pitocin and I was able to start feeling them a little more. They weren't painful, just uncomfortable. At 7:30am my Dr. came in and decided to break my water in order to get things rolling. That sucked!! It gushed like crazy and I felt like I was peeing myself and couldn't stop lol! Soon after that I started having some fairly painful contractions. After only about 4 contractions, my nurse came in and told me that the baby was not liking my contractions and his heart rate was dropping with each one. They got oxygen on me and tried rolling me from side to side. Within minutes there were about 10 nurses and Dr.'s in my room. My Dr decided to try to check and see if the baby's cord was around him neck - again - that sucked!! He couldn't really tell, and then I heard him say that they needed to prep the OR and told me that I was going to be needing an emergency c-section. I was trying very hard through all of this to stay calm and focus on getting my baby out as soon as possible so nothing bad could happen to him. My Dr. told me that they were going to try one time to get a spinal into me, and if they were able to do it in one shot and very quickly, then my DH would be able to be in the room for the birth, if not they would have to put me under and he would not be able to be in the room. The rushed me off to the OR while my DH changed, and luckily the anesthesiologist was able to get the spinal in very quickly. I was very surprised by how little it hurt... Very quick and easy. So luckily my DH was able to come in soon after that. I am fairly positive they were already cutting me open when he walked in the room. It only seemed like about 3 minutes and they had the baby out. They showed him to us real quick over the sheet then went and got him cleaned up. It was then that I heard him crying. It seemed so surreal... like everything happened so quickly that I wasn't able to put two and two together that I just had a baby! DH was able to go over and check on Vinny as they worked on stitching me up, and he was able to bring him over to me. I had a hard time getting a good look at him though... Vinny was born at 8:28am and was 6lbs 2oz and 18in long. They wheeled me into my room and it was then that I was able to hold him for the first time. The first thing that I noticed was that he had my nose :-) It is amazing to be able to look at your child and to see yourself in them.
We were in the hospital until Friday morning. He did well in the hospital, and were were able to send him to the nursery at night, and have them bring him in for feedings. I felt a little guilty doing this... but we really needed our rest. A friend of ours just had a baby and was like "send your baby to the nursery at night!!" And DH and I were like "I'm sure we'll be able to handle it." Yeah... that lasted about 3 seconds. We figured it would be nice to have the help for the first few days before we were on our own at home haha!
The first couple days at home have been intense. I am breast feeding, which I have to say, really sucks!!! It hurts so bad!! Not only are my nipples already killing, but they have been cracked and bleeding. And then my milk came in yesterday and my breasts have been soooo sore!! I really want to stick with it, but I see myself starting to pump more and more, because it is not as painful as him latching. He seems to sleep a lot during the day which leads to him being up a lot at night which is hard. But I know it will get better soon. We have been trying to keep to a schedule of feeding him every 3 hours.
He is just so darn cute!!! It is so amazing having him here and being able to hold him, and just look at him. I know that things are going to be rough, but I am just so happy to be a mom and to be able to start this new journey.
Here are some (ok a lot) pictures of my little Vinny;

It sounds like the birth was a little frightening, but I'm glad that your H was able to be with you! I'm sorry breastfeeding is hurting you so much
I've heard terrible things, but I've also heard from many women that after about 2 weeks it starts to get better. So hopefully you are one of those women!!
