I've decided to get an e-reader for my birthday but I can't decide which I want. I like the Nook Color but it's more than we can afford to spend right now. So it's between the Nook and the Kindle.
Can anybody tell me what they have and why you chose it? Are there any unique features one has that the other does not?
TIA ladies!

Re: Kindle vs. Nook
I have the Second generation kindle with 3g. I have had it for a few years now. I absolutely love it. I love that I can turn on the wireless and buy a book anytime and not worry about a wifi connection.
The e-ink is really great. It does look like a paper. You need a reading light to use it. For me that's what I am looking for. I look at a computer screen 8+ hours a day. It is relaxing to my eyes to look at that isn't back lit like a computer screen.
The battery life on kindles has only gotten better since I got mine. Mine lasts a month on one charge, about 2 weeks with the wireless on.
You can also do basic web browsing. I'm sure the newer models are better at it. One of the things that is cool about the 3g Kindle is you can use the 3g when you travel and don't have access to an internet connection.
I'm not sure if the Nook has it, but Amazon has a lot of free books and popular books for pretty cheap. I bought one of my favorite books for two dollars. A lot of the time I will download a bunch of free books just to see if I like any of them. A lot of the classics are free.
If you know anyone else with a Kindle. You can share certain books in your library.
Whichever e reader you decide to get. Buy a case. It will easy your mind. Especially with a growing little girl.
I have the same Kindle as Eva, and I love it, though I am noticing that my battery life is starting to deteriorate, though that's sort of expected giving it's age. I'm not sure if mine is the 3G or just WiFi, but I know I can download a book from just about anywhere.
I too really love the e-ink. I remember reading about the technology in Popular Science a few years before they first came out and was pretty excited about it. It really is very easy on the eyes, and I know I'd avoid one that didn't have that. Reading things on my phone is just not as easy.
I find the prices of books through Amazon to be very reasonable. Generally it's about the same (I find) as a paperback, and you can get it when it's only available as a hardcover. That being said, Derek and I read a lot of the same books, so I try to only get books on my Kindle that I know he's not interested in reading (like Stephen King), though if he had one too I'd probably go a little nuts.
We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?
I had the first generation Kindle (passed down from my Grandfather). And even though it was the more dated version, I loved it! It is so much nicer being able to read one handed- esp when holding a infant.
Like the other ladies said- the books are very reasonable through Amazon. I rarely paid over 2.99 for a book (they have a ton for .99 too). Although, some of the more popular books tend to cost more but are still reasonable.
I definitely agree with getting a cover though- I didnt use mine once when we went away and the screen got smashed in my bag. Sadly that resulted in the death of the kindle.
Im really hoping to get a new one soon though!

Here's another question. Where do I download books from for the Nook? I know it's Amazon for the Kindle.
I'm definitely leaning towards the Kindle now ladies. I do get tired of staring at the computer all day and don't mind having a light for when I read in bed.
I think you can buy Nook Books from B&N.com.
For me one of the reasons I wanted a Kindle is the ease of amazon's website. I am more familiar with it.
Oh and I have this reading light. For my Kindle in the leather case it works really well. I also use it on regular books when I'm not reading my kindle. It has worked out really well.
Another Kindle lover here. I have the 3rd generation, but I know they just came out with a whole new lineup of options in the last month or so. They have one for as cheap as $79 now.
The new thing about getting library books was only a matter of time, since I think that was the major thing pushing people towards the Nook instead. I love amazon, so I just felt more comfortable going with them from the beginning. A lot of our B&N stores are being sold as well, so the Nook lost its appeal that way, too.
