clothing vent - Mom's/Mom's to be

So last night we had to go away, and I was standing in front of my closet trying to decide what to wear. I came to the conclusion that I've come to the point where it's kinda a crappy deal for cloths!

Half my stuff doesn't fit anymore, the stuff that does I wear over and over, and am really sick of, then I feel like I can't justify going shopping for cloths because I still need to buy regular tops since I wouldn't be able to wear maternity. Bump is still to small for that.

Anyone else have this.. what did you do to get yourself through the "in-between" stage?

Re: clothing vent - Mom's/Mom's to be

  • Luckily I was able to wear my normal clothes and then BAM one day I needed maternity clothes.  I'm still wearing maternity bottoms and regular tops...although I do love the fit of a maternity shirt.  You will wear the same things over and over again if you don't want to buy anything new.  I'm at that stage.  Luckily Maria sent me over some awesome maternity clothes so I've been rotating those out, but I'm wearing some of the same outfits.

You can try the rubberband on the button of your bottoms to give some elastic.  You can buy some stretchy shirts, because you know you will grow into them.
Dresses have gotten me a long way.

  • Even in maternity clothes I felt like I was wearing the same things over and over b/c I didn't buy a ton since I would only need it for less than 9 months. I wore regular through the 1st half of my pregnancy. As for pants I just used the belly band if stuff didn't fit right and my maternity stuff was too big.

  • I've bought a few maternity items because none of my pants fit anymore, but I don't plan on buying a ton because they're so expensive. (Plus, my SIL's SIL is lending me a bunch of her clothes.) When I do go shopping, I've pretty much just been buying long shirts, sweaters, and non-form fitting dresses that I can wear during and after pregnancy.

  • Bella band for your pants will make them last longer.

I found the "too big for regular clothes, too small for maternity" to be the worst part of the pregnancy in terms of getting dressed.

Since it is "winter", you could layer extra long tanks (maternity or regular) under your other shirts to combat the length issue. Stretchy regular tops are your friend!

I even went out and got some cheap regular tops in a bigger size since maternity clothes tend to be so expensive.

Near the end of my pregnancy I literally lived in the same 3 outfits. I was definitely happy I didn't have to go to work.

  • I lived in plain layering tanks and long sleeve shirts from target maternity. They are just longer not wider

  • Ugh! I totally remember that stage. I went out and bought several float non- maternity dresses. They worked great and fit my post-partum body well also.

  • I still have several of my regular skirts that fit, because I wear them lower aka on the hips... Some of the ones that don't I tend to wear with the belly band. That being said my jeans still fit, but they have a lower waist as well. It's more the tops that are becoming an issue because I have lots of blouses but can't wear half of them anymore. My other tops still fit because obviously they are stretchy... I guess I just hate having a limited wardrobe because I'm used to having more.

I got a bunch of old navy long tanks (were on sale for $2 at the time) in one size up in different colors and wore them under regular shirts. I'm sure Target or other stores have something similar. That way I had a layered look with a lot more coverage. Obviously, by month nine they were "regular" length..lol

That being said, I adored Maternity pants and dresses. I wish all clothes could be made so comfy. I still wear a few Maternity shirts (shhh don't tell anyone), but you really can't tell I don't think.

I still do this too. I only bought two pairs of maternity pants and two shirts. One shirt was super super thin so I don't wear it anymore, but I still wear my blue one. It's just such a pretty color I can't part with it lol. I also still wear my maternity work pants to work I just fold the band part over a belt....LOL They're comfy and I don't feel like going and buying new pants when I have perfectly good ones! I don't think you can tell either!

Maternity stuff IS SO EXPENSIVE. For something that you can only wear for a few months, it's so not worth it.

I also did the one size larger thing, and that was toward the end of my pregnancy too (granted I went into labor before I got too far into my third tri so I wasn't THAT big) and I recommend it, even if it's just a basic tee from walmart

  • Ditto to the still wearing maternity clothes.  I can fit in my regular pants but 9 times out of 10 reach for my really nice pair of dark maternity jeans that I bought.  That elasticized waist is just sooooo comfortable!  Smile

This. My wardrobe was a lot more limited during my pregnancy because I was too cheap to buy a lot of clothes. Luckily I was able to wear my jeans and trousers until the end (with a bella band over top), and most of my shirts fit until I was in my 3rd trimester. At the end not even my maternity clothes fit over my belly properly.
