Shoe Question for Moms

My brother and FSIL are getting married 4-4.5 months after the baby comes and we're in the wedding. FSIL decided she wanted us all to wear the same shoes:

I want to get them soon because I don't want them to get discontinued, but I'm worried that they may not fit the same on the big day. How quickly does swelling in your feet go away postpartum? Did any of you end up having to go up a shoe size permanently after being pregnant?

Re: Shoe Question for Moms

  • I think I own these.  Too bad my foot is probably way bigger then yours!  (I wear a 9).

As for foot size after pregnancy, I never had a problem with wearing my shoes or sandles.  I don't think my size changed at all.  I only had swelling on really warm days and days near the end when I was on my feet a lot.

  • obv, I'm not here yet, but this is one of those "it's different for everyone" things I think! My feet are HUGE right now...I can only fit into sneakers and crocs! haha.

maybe ask your mom what happened when she was pregnant? It could be a good indicator of what will happen to you.

also, worst case scenario they don't fit and you wear something else. Isn't the dress long anyway? SIL will just have to understand...in my opinion :-)

  • C's feet were swelling out of her Keens from around 28 w onward. It was gross, seriously.

But within 2 days of delivery it all went away, even w/ the c section.

  • Yay, I love that you now need to ask questions like this. Smile

My feet got swollen the last couple of weeks, but went back to normal pretty quickly after delivery.

  • I was so swollen for months but my feet went back to normal pretty much right away. My fingers on the other hand didn't. I could wear my rings until after Brynn was a year old.

My mom gained 1/2 size after each of her 3 kids. .... her feet went back to her old size about 5 years ago when my sister was 20. So weird!

Yes they are long, and even if FSIL said it was okay, I know behind closed doors she'd be fuming. She's young and everything has be perfect. Confused Of course if for some reason I couldn't actually fit into them I wouldn't tell her.

  • My swelling went down a week or so after B was born. However, the 1/2 size my feet grew during pregnancy? That never went away.

  • The swelling should go away pretty quickly (not that I know from experience yet), but whether or not your feet grow is a different story - and you won't know until the end.  To be safe, see if you fit comfortably in a half size larger right now - if so, just get those and I'd think you have a pretty good chance of being fine.  If the half size up is too big, then I'd just buy your regular size and cross your fingers.

  • Congrats to you!!

My feet didn't swell until the last week, but that was because of the ham from Easter dinner and I was on them all day working.

My feet also did not grow at all, thank God....if anything I wish they would have shrunk!

  • My feet grew a half size with each pregnancy, but eventually went back down after a year or so. The swelling postpartum lasted almost three weeks for me.

  • My feet didn't really swell until 3 days PP... they were a little swollen but nothing crazy the day I was induced but nothing like day 3. I don't think my feet grew during pregnancy.

In regards to Claire's statement about asking your mom-- my mom's feet grew about 1/2 a size each pregnancy. I really prayed mine wouldn't since I'm already a 10 1/2 to 11.

  • Okay, first, CONGRATS!!! I started swelling up around 34 weeks (pre-e) and it was off and on until 38 weeks. Then a ton of fluids were pushed during my induction and I got really swollen again ... 10 days later the swelling is finally minimal. I haven't tried any shoes other than tennis shoes yet. Maybe see if they come in a wide width??
