Home safety

First, when out and about, remember to buy batteries for your smoke detectors (if needed).  We change clocks this weekend, and that's the best time to test the detectors and change batteries.

Second, do you have a home fire extinguisher?  Where do you keep it?  Anyone know how long they're good for?  We got one at our wedding shower 6 years ago, and I wonder about it.  We keep it under our kitchen sink.

Re: Home safety

  • We had an extinguisher and kept it under the sink too. I thought there was a date on the label somewhere that said how long it was good for but not sure.
  • Good reminder on the batteries.

We do have a fire extinguisher and it is also under the kitchen sink.  I think we got it shortly after we moved into our house, which was five years ago.  I have no idea how long it's good for.

And, just out of curiosity, did you register for a fire extinguisher?

  • We did not.  There's a firefighter in the family.

  • We keep a fire extinguisher under the kitchen sink, and one in the lower level bathroom - it's right next to the living room with the wood burning stove.

  • The fire dept in my hometown handed out smoke detector batteries on Halloween. I thought that was a great idea.
