Freak snow storm destroys reception!
My Name is Chris Gardner and I am posting on this site to see if anyone could help us.So we got married on Saturday Oct 29th.2011. For those of you who don;t know this was the day of the FREAK 100 year storm that hit the northeast. The god news....WE GOT MARRIED! The bad news over 100 of our guests could not make the wedding due to the crazy snow storm we got. We arrived at reception site to find no power! We never received a call from the hall to tell us before hand either. Crazy right? On top of all of this most of our friends are firefighters like us and could not join us because they had to respond to multiple emergencies in our town. I am looking for ideas on what we can do now?!? We missed out on sharing this day with everyone(including my sister, mother and father and my wires brother and sister-in-law because blocked roads kept them from getting to the reception site.j
Re: Freak snow storm destroys reception!
That snowstorm was a surprise and a wowza...I live in the Northeast, too and there are still people minus power and schools that have been closed all freaking week.
My advice:
Turn lemons into lemonade.:)
Why not invite a small intimate amount of your nearest and dearest -- maybe 30 people -- and have a marriage celebration when the winter is over?:)
Pick some fun restaurant that has a party room; serve an inexpensive meal.
Did you speak to the reception site? Can they make some sort of "make good" being that a snowstorm and power failure dissallowed your wedding? Give you some sort of refund?
My guess is you got no phone call because there was a massive power outage and there most likely was nobody around who could call you to tell you what happened and warn you in advance there was no power on site.
Um, how was this a "freak" snow storm? It had been on the news that it was coming for about a week. Its not like it was 80 and sunny and then *bam!* there was a lot of snow. Was the snow out of the norm for this time of year? Yes. But it wasn't really a surprise unless you live under a rock (or don't watch the news).
Perhaps your reception site can do a "make good" thing or at least refund your money.
