just a question to see if this happens to anyone else.......

so I know this is personal, but I have a mirena IUD, and everytime the mister and I, know, I end up spotting for about 2 days. sometimes heavier than others. I was just wondering if anyone else has this, or if it's common.

thanks

Re: just a question to see if this happens to anyone else.......

  • I'm on the nuva ring, so I can't help you much. Since you brought it up, though, other than this issue, how do you like Mirena? I've been thinking of switching since it'll be another 3-4 years before we start trying.
  • I too am not on mirena but have thought about it...

I am currently on Sprintec 28, and have been since Feb. Like clockwork I was having complications every single month. Called my gyno and she walked me through some other "side effects" that woman still experience even after the 3 month trial.  - All is well.

So I would call your gyno simply because everyone reacts differently. I personally kept reading that everyone else on Sprintec only had complications during the first 2-3 months so I was really freaking out for a while. Hopefully your OBGYN is as helpful as mine on answering questions.

Also, since I have learned a bit about Mirena as an option for myself - I wonder if the string is too long and its being moved around a bit causing small tears that are obviously healing after a couple of days. I am NO doctor though so I would still contact your gyno.

  • Not for nothing, but:

    A) People are different and have different reactions to various things.  Asking strangers, who dont even have a similar genetic make-up as you, how something affects them is bit pointless.

    B) Except for a handful of posters, the majority here are not medical professionals. And even if there is a doctor here, she/he could not really diagnos the issue without a full workup.

It would be really sucky if some stranger tell you its all ok...when it is not.

  • What Illumine said. Sometimes this sort of spotting can be associated with endometriosis, so seeing your HCP asap is a good idea.
  • I have had mirena for about 2 years now. I haven't had the issue you described, but sometimes my periods will be unregular. I'll start my period, then stop for a few days, then it will start again. It's never heavy though and I don't get any cramping like I used to. Overall i really like mirena.
  • Is your Mirena fairly new?

I've had Mirena for about 10 months now (switched from ParaGard, which I had for about 5 months).  At the beginning, yes, I had exactly what you described, and it got much lighter with time.  Sometimes I still see a little pink afterwards, depending on where I am in my cycle.

It's a good point to say that different symptoms mean different things for different people (it's probably wise to gauge how un/comfortable you are), but I've been there.  Still love the Mirena. Love. It.

  • I really like the Mirena, it's no fuss you don't have to think about it. I would suggest it if you aren't planning to get pregnant for awhile. it really has been wonderful. I suck at taking the pill, the patch always fell off me, and the nuva kind of freaks me out. so the mirena is perfect for me.
  • I wasn't seeking medical advice, just wondering if anyone else had a similar issue, and I would never take a strangers advice over going to my doctor. I was really just curious if this was a common thing or not.

so thanks for sharing how stupid you think I am
