How long did you use a video monitor?

Our piece of crap one finally broke and im having so much anxiety not being able to check in on DS through the night or during nap time. Its helpful when he's refusing naps and stuff bc I can see when he gives in and lies down or if its hopeless and hes using his crib as a trampoline. And it just gives me piece of mind to be able to check on him.

How long did you use one? Should I invest in a new one? I think it will be handy when we start with a toddler bed and for #2.

And would you rec yours?

Re: How long did you use a video monitor?

  • We never had one, but I could see where it could cause anxiety when you had one and now you don't.  We only had the audio one.  Drew's older now so I wouldn't worry so much at night, he'll yell when he wants you and you'd be surprised everything you hear with the audio ones if you want to save the $$.

  • I still use ours Embarrassed  We have 3 floors in our townhouse and are usually 2 floors away from him at night (TV room is all the way downstairs) so I like that I can check in on him without going up 2 flights of stairs.  I found it helpful when A was in his toddler bed and we could watch to see when he would pop out of bed and be playing in his room when he was supposed to be sleeping.  Now that he's in his big boy bed I still use it simply because it's the only monitor we have.  He also likes the comfort knowing that Mommy can see and hear him through the camera in case he has a bad dream or needs me at night.  Although I do find him waving to me sometimes when he's trying to get my attention.  LOL

This is the one we have.  It's by summer infant.  It's an older model.  I didn't see it at BRU but found it on amazon.  It's not a huge screen but I don't mind that at all.

  • We have one by infant optics... We only got it when we moved  into this house in August... Its only 100 bux and pretty no frills.. But it does the job. They have an awesome warranty on it... DH dropped it and broke the antennae off and they replaced it and gave us a lifetime warranty. Only available on amazon. We will prob wind up buying another camera for #2.

  • Up until Thursday I used it nightly and now it broke.  Ofcourse Summer doesn't make it anymore.  So I we be investing in another one soon, I have a video one that also rotated so I could see both cribs in my room.  I want one for basement now too because of playroom.

I have a simple $20 one right now that I had given my mom, I can only hear though.  I like the video ones for reasons JennyNel listed above.

  • I have the same one Jennynel posted. I've never had an issue with it and it still works just fine. I'll probably continue to use it with A until I need it for the new baby, so maybe another year.

I think they have a newer version of that monitor now and it looks a little different. It was about $200 I think, and I have always felt it was well worth the cost.

Here is the newer version of the one I have...

Try calling Summer. They offered to replace mine with a brand new one for $50. Maybe they will just give you the next model. They went off of what I told them (i said I had it for 2 years) and she said if it was under a year, they would replace it for free.  Worth a shot.

  • Thank you! I try calling, mine is 17 months, worth a short, $50 is better than $200.

Exactly...But mine has been a piece of crap since day 1, so I dont want to spend $50 on another one ill just hate and have problems with.

    Im leaning towards this one

  • We also have the same one as JennyNel. I still use it.  I probably will continue to use it for A until we have another baby. We haven't had any problems with it.

  • we still do.  sue is almost 2.5 and in a toddler bed.  she was actually just "napping" and i used it and caught her playing with her dora house.  lol.

i actually have no plans to stop using one.  like jennynel, i have the same town house issue.  plus it is just so easy.  i'm actually in the market for a monitor that i can use in multiple rooms for once the new baby comes.

right now, we have the summer infant one.  it's the second one we had.  the first was the same brand but eventually the sound went even though the video still worked.

you should check amazon.  they have different brands (normally expensive ones like motorola) on their deal of the day and hourly lightening deals pretty often.

  • I have the Summer Infant Complete Coverage Video Monitoring System. I absolutely love it. I have the monitor set up  next to my bed & the portable usually in the living room. I also have no intention on giving it up. Its nice to check & see when she falls asleep etc. I also use it at nap time for same reasons. & when we move it will be helpful to not have to go up & down the stairs for no reason. I hate when we sleep at my MILs as they only have an audio monitor. <3
