Elastic question (probably for those that have or recently had toddlers)

Does anyone know if you can buy (and where) the elastic for adjustable kids pants (that has the button holes cut in it)?  I thought of just making it myself ,but I'm afraid that stitching a button hole would effect the elasticity.  I want to make some Christmas PJ pants for our boys, but I'd like to double hem them and make the waist adjustable so maybe I could get 2 seasons out of them (since they're not growing out of things quite so fast), along with using it in other things.

  • It's called buttonhole elastic and I "think" you can find it at Joanns (although, I honestly haven't purchased any).

  • Homesew.com I pretty sure they carry it in the paper catalog. Their online selection isn't as good. I would request a catalog. Toddler pj pants should last two years in the waist easy. With just a regular with an elastic waist band.Once a kids waist, chest, and hip hits about 21 1/2 " They grow strictly up for a few years! LOL   Some kinda cuff that can be let down should do the trick. :)

  • I have some from Fabric.com- kind of silly to JUST order it there, though- it's $0.83 a yard right now (and they always have coupons to make it lower).

  • JoAnn's has it, if you can find it, on the Notion's Wall. Dritz brand, the number on the front right top corner is 9347W for 5/8" Buttonhole elastic (1 yard). (the barcode number is 7287909347, I don't know if that will help any.)
