Speaking of Christmas trees...poll!!!
Speaking of Christmas trees, themed trees, yes or no. Vote whether or not you have a tree, unless you don't want too.
[Poll]
Re: Speaking of Christmas trees...poll!!!
my currently-reading shelf:
Well, I voted yes but in reality, I think you can have either tree and they can look nice. My aunt used to have two trees..one in the living room that was "thematic" (all peach to match the decor) and one in the family room that was "memory" and mismatched.
I'm slowly moving our tree to be majority crystal, glass, and blown glass since I think the greater percentage of ornaments of similar material will add a cohesivness, but intersperse with a select few sentimental ornaments that can be of anything (wood or even cheesy plastic). The bottom 2.5 feet are ugly ornaments I hate...because that's the cat zone where he likes to knock them all off.
I really like the idea behind sentimental ornaments, but the hodge podge mess drives me crazy.
I was raised on a monochromatic, department store type tree and those are the only ones that I like now.
Right now, our tree is semi-themed. We have red and white ball ornaments and I get one 'year' ornament.
I think when we have kids, this will change and become a hodgepodge of what the kids make at school.
I was raised on hodge podge trees (as was DH), but I can't stand how they're not as pretty *I'm horrible, I know*.
I did compromise with DH, and we have colored lights. But all of our ornaments coordinate both in color and in theme, and they coordinate with the rest of our decorations throughout the house (including our wrapping paper).
I don't like ones that have no color/theme/direction and are a mess of everything. But, I also don't love if they look too "department store." I think sticking w/ a general color or colors and then getting a variety of things -- new, old, sentimental, that fit is a good compromise. Some "department store" bulbs and ribbon mixed w/ other ornaments that "go."
I try to stick w/ red, white, silver. But, that includes red, white and silver bulbs and all my starbucks ornaments (mostly red and white) and some angels.
i would DIE with colored lights.. i hate them. white is the only way.
this.
and this.
i compromised with h. we have a "base" of monochromatic red and gold...with a few sentimental ornaments.
