Lurker stepping out..with a question

I normally lurk on this board, have posted a couple of times, but not many. I hope to lurk no more.

I love being crafty- I sew, scrapbook, cricut, I am trying my hand at crochet (its been slow and painful) would love to knit, and am about to start rug hooking (I inherited all my g-ma's stuff). I am also a big reader(I spend most of my time on NBC), love photography and am very very outdoorsy.

My question is whether anyone has ever made their own dog bed? We are looking for one and MH is not happy with what we have found, he also has incredible faith that I can just make one instead. I have some ideas on what I would do, but if anyone has any suggestions I am up for them!

Thanks!!

Re: Lurker stepping out..with a question

  • I have.  I have a small dog and found a wicker basket at Target he would fit in.  I bought a piece of foam at Joann and then covered it with fleece to put in the basket.  My dog likes to makes nests, so I used just a flat piece of fleece (bonus, no sewing!) as a blanket for the top.  He likes it and it was super easy.  I'll see if I have a picture.

  • I guess I should have said dog cushion rather than bed, I will probably make a couple, but one will be for the back seat of the truck(on the floor) and another for the house.

Thats what I was thinking with the foam. Thanks for the input!

  • I am thinking of making one for our dog, but I might go to Tuesday Morning and see the size and shapes of their pillows (for human beds) and cover one of those if they aren't too thick.  Of course, I would only do this if they were a really low price LOL

  • I took a piece of fleece, folded it in half, sewed 2.5 sides closed, flipped right side out and stuffed with an old comforter.

I like the old comforter idea, I think we have one. It would be perfect for the truck! Thanks!

  • I have made dog beds with fleece also, I just cut 2 rectangles, sewed the edges together leaving a small hole, turned them right side out, filled them with polyfill and sewed the hole closed.

  • Yup!  I made our dog bed.  I inserted a zipper too, so it's so easy to take it off to clean.
