job interview - mani?

hi, I've never posted on this board and I lurked a little, so I hope this doesn't get asked all the time. I may be over thinking this, but do you get a manicure before going to a job interview? Obviously something short and neutral.

I have a third interview next week and it's the first "in person" interview. Previously I interviewed with HR and the hiring manager by phone. Its 2 1/2 hours long and with four people. I just want to look my best for the interview.

Re: job interview - mani?

  • There is no harm in doing it, but I have never done it.  WHen I used to paint my nails, I just painted them myself.  I haven't worn polish in years but my nails are groomed, my hands don't look gross - anything like that.  And I really can't see how it would play ANY role in whether I get a job or not.

  • My nails are always short, clean, and painted in clear polish (if any at all), so I have never bothered getting a mani before an interview. And as someone who has conducted interviews, I really don't look that closely at people's nails - as long as they are short, clean and neutral, they're good.

  • There's certainly no harm in it, but I can't see how it would make any difference.

If you usually get one, I see no problem in getting one right before an interview. But I wouldn't go out of my way for it. I rarely wear polish, and it's never played a role in an interview as far as I can tell.

  • I agree w/ others, but I'm also going to say that if it will make you FEEL more put together or confident, then go for it!
  • I'm a lurker also.  I usually do get one if I really want the position but the point is your nails should look neat and professional.  If you can do that yourself then you don't need one, but when I get a French manicure I just feel so much more put together (especially since I am just okay at doing my own nails).
  • I always do. Similarly, I always get one before client meetings, and I try to go every other week anyway.

It can't hurt, esp if you feel better about yourself with it.

    Good luck!
