Andy Rooney Dies

NYT Obit

I always liked him. One summer when I was staying with my Grandmother I read all of his books since she had them. My grandfather used to sit next to him on the train occasionally. Apparently he was a very nice guy in person.

  • I always thought he'd be a nice person off air...the cranky old guy was just his bit.  I had a feeling he'd be passing very soon.  He seemed like the type that would pass once he stopped working.

He actually says in one of his books that he never intended to retire. He felt sorry for people who couldn't wait to retire because they must have hated their jobs. He loved his job and never wanted to stop doing it.

His devotion to his wife was also very touching. In one of his essays he writes about someone asking him why he never mentions his wife in any of his pieces anymore. He says because she passed away and he misses her so much that mentioning her makes him really sad.

  • I loved him. I'm glad he worked almost to the end, I always felt like it wasn't really a job, it was his one day a week to tell America to get off his lawn. :)

I'm glad he and his wife are together now.

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
