Nook Or Kindle?

Would you recommend the nook or kindle, why? Which version is best for the price?

Thanks girls!

Re: Nook Or Kindle?

  • I love my nook (as do my mom and sister who have borrowed it and keep passing it between themselves). I have no experience with the kindle so I can't compare them. I think the nook is really easy to use.

  • I love my Nook. I like how easy it is to navigate and I like using BN to download the books. It helps that it's compatible with books I can get "lended" from my library too.

  • I have the newest Nook touch screen and I adore it.  I didn't get the color because I didn't want the backlit screen.  It's small, but that's because it doesn't have a built in keyboard on the front.  I've never used a Kindle, so I can't really compare the two.

I went with the Nook because of the library downloading option, but Kindle is supposed to be getting that soon, so that might not be an issue anymore.

Liz is right, this was the major downside for the Kindle vs. the Nook when I was looking to get one, but now you can borrow library books with the Kindle, too. I love my Kindle! I have no complaints, and I love Amazon.

  • I don't have either, but Matt is getting me the Kindle for Christmas. Hopefully I like it since a lot of people here are pro-Nook!

I think most of us are pro-Nook just because that's the one we happened to purchase.  Now that the similarities are greater between them, and I just saw them advertise a new Kindle that looks just like my Nook (all touch screen), I honestly couldn't recommend one over the other.

You definitely need to go handle them and see if one feels better to you than the other.  That would probably be the best way to decide.

  • I don't have either one, I have an iPad2, but I do have both apps on my iPad and I will say, I tend to favor the Kindle one more. I love borrowing library books, it's my main source to get books from, and recently my local library's online system that only used to offer the ePub books now offers those and Kindle versions. I'm guessing the ePub files were the ones the Nook used, but I definitely like having the flexibility to choose either one now.

I bought my MIL a Kobo from Borders during their going out of business sale, Kate was kind enough to pick it up for me, and it too supports the ePub files that most libraries use for their ebooks.

If I were to choose a stand alone ereader though, I think I'd go with the new Kindle, just because I tend to prefer Amazon over B&N.

  • I totally love my Kindle. I really didn't want a backlit screen. I got the cheaper wifi version and it meets all my needs. Amazon is great and often has free booms to download.
