SingleGirl in Spanish

SingleGirl in Spanish (and Portuguese)
In which SingleGirl posts an update while she's on vacation

In my last post, I told you all about my adventures in Rio de Janeiro and how I'm not so single any more. This hasn't changed, so if you're averse to sappy lovesick goo, I advise you to stop reading forthwith.

We've already covered the fact that it's ridiculous to start a relationship with someone on the other side of the world that you've only met a few times, right? (I know that some of you on this board know that ridiculous or not, sometimes it's just something you've got to do.) Well, we can now increase the number of times we've met by one!

Some of you might recall that I have been planning a trip through South America, and one of my stops was Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires is a mere three-hour flight from Rio de Janeiro. That's practically next door! So when Fernando (not his real name, but one that my officemate gave him, since he wanted to use something from the Lady Gaga song. Yes, my officemate is silly.) heard that I would be in Buenos Aires on Brazil's November 1 holiday, he booked a flight to come visit me for a day! ...and two nights. Wink

We've talked on Skype pretty much every day since I got home from my last trip, and after he booked his ticket, he created a web page that counted down the hours until we got to see each other again. Since I met him at the airport in Buenos Aires, it was a little bit behind.

And so we got to spend a beautiful day together in Buenos Aires, where we drank lots of wine and wandered the city together. Even more than the "Sigh, romantic" aspect of this, it calmed my nerves a little because so far he is great to travel with! The trip to Vegas was the nail in the coffin of my time with HG, because it was an awful time. Travel is too big a part of my life to be with someone I don't enjoy traveling with, and I loved exploring the city with Fernando. ...Okay, I can't call him that. Someone come up with a new nickname for my sugary sweet Brazilian metal fan with formerly crazy hair!

I will be back in Rio for work in a few weeks, but before then, I will be without an internet connection for two weeks straight. We haven't gone more than a day without talking on Skype. And in between, we send each other messages and emails. This is going to be a looong 13 days. Sad

On a more amusing note, his boss is actually an old friend of mine from a previous ex-pat assignment. And by chance, he happened to be in Buenos Aires later in the week, so I spent a few days hanging out with him and his wife and daughter. I enjoyed the surprised look on his face when I confessed that Fernando and I were dating and that he had been in Buenos Aires just a few days earlier. When I get to Rio, we might all have dinner together. Hello, awkward!

Yes, ladies, SingleGirl is completely smitten. And so is the boy she's smitten with. If only she didn't live quite so far from Brazil.

Re: SingleGirl in Spanish

  • His name is Fernando?  I approve based on the awesomeness of his name alone.
  • ah yes - I can relate :) I only knew dh for about a day before parting ways to different countries, then a month or so later after MANY emails & phone calls (ahhhh pre skype days :) he stopped by to see me in the states after a snowboard trip - the rest, as they say, is history! now I've been living overseas with him for 10 years, married with a baby

    Here is the last post:

Basically he's a Brazilian guy I met through work a while ago who had a crush on me. I thought he was cute, but he had crazy hair. When I met him last month in Rio, he had cut his hair and was incredibly cute. I was keeping up with my single girl ways but then realized that there was something more there, and we've been "dating" ever since.

Not from the ship in the middle of nowhere. Sad Everywhere else we've been video chatting daily. I once fell asleep with the video on, and I was completely embarrassed until he told me that he enjoyed it. It was sort of like having me around, because he could keep working and just look over and watch me sleeping once in a while. Because of the time difference, I often just go to sleep with it running now, and once I woke up to find he'd fallen asleep as well, so there he was on the iPad sleeping next to me. Cheesy but kind of adorable.
  • I'm glad you got to see him again. He sounds quite nice!

When DH and I were long distance the past three months of it were the hardest and we would leave Skype on while we slept. Since he worked night shift he was getting home just about the time I would be starting to fall asleep. It was really nice because we felt connected. I really happy for you and your new relationship!
