Where is your favorite place in the US to travel, and why?
Re: QOTD Monday (travel)
Stand up for something you believe in.
I don't like to travel back to the same place, my motto is - so many places so little time so I prefer to travel to a new place. We've been to many National Parks and hope to go to more. If I have to choose a place to go back to, it'll be NYC, I used to live there and still have family and friends there and don't mind going back there, although it's been years since I've been.
NYC - I love just walking around because each neighborhood has such a different vibe. Plus I love Central Park, Broadway, pizza and bagels!
Vegas - gambling, good food, and just because it's like an adult playground. It's good for two days and then I have my fill until the next time!
Smoky Mountains.
It's beautiful, not too bad of a drive, the dogs can come with us, there's hiking, lounging by the pool, drinking, and redneck watching. It's perfect.
We make the rockin' world go 'round.
I'm torn between the Bay Area - San Francisco, Napa and Sonoma - and San Diego. But I also fell in love with Big Sur and Monterey the last time we were in California. So if the question was about your favorite state, I'd have no problems answering!
Bay Area - I love San Francisco. It is beautiful, interesting people, great food, lots to see and do. Plus there is Sonoma and Napa - again, beautiful, but also great food and wine and BEER! The best brewery in the country in in Santa Rosa.
San Diego - It is just so beautiful there and I always feel so relaxed when we go there.
If someone handed me a free trip to CA right now, I'd pick San Francisco, though, so I guess that's my answer.
i haven't really been to much of the US. we didn't really have vacations when I was growing up & then, when I was grown up & could afford vacations, I wanted to go abroad.
That said, probably northern california. as in, humbolt county area. I have an aunt that lives up there & it's so lovely to visit. I can stop by sonoma or napa & then head up to her.
I would like to go to some of the national parks & maine someday too though
If it is summertime, then Lake Champlain in Upstate NY or Vermont. I spent all of my childhood summers on the lake and love it more than I can say. I like it in other seasons too, seeing the Ausable Chasm waterfall frozen solid in mid winter is an incredible sight to behold, and being able to drive in a truck on the lake is cool beyond belief, and to see the icebergs in spring is nifty too, and as you may imagine, early fall in the Upper Adirondacks is a riot of color, but I have thin blood and really prefer summers there. It's the best slice of heaven on earth you can ask for.

I think that my favorite place that I've been so far in the US is Key West. I'd go back there in a minute. So relaxing and so many great bars to stumble around to when you're ready to tear yourself away from the beach.
That's hard. I agree I don't like to go to the same place and most of my vacations recently have been more about visiting people and less about being a tourist.
Before I met DH, I had never been to Maine. But, he is originally from there and has family so we've been there a bunch since we've been together.
We had the most awesome vacation in Maine this summer staying at a cabin on the lake. It was so beautiful and relaxing.

NYC - the food, the shopping, the sights, the neighborhoods. DH and I are originally from the NYC area, so it's home to us.
Vegas - I used to have family there and have been going since I was younger. Love the casinos and sights, gambling, shows, restaurants.
In general my fav place is the one I haven't been to yet. So my current "favorite place" is Hawaii (going there for the first time in January).
But of my "been to's" it totally depends on what I'm looking for:
1. Chicago: we try to go once a year for a Bears game (usually depressing). I love the museums, hearty food, and just walking around forever.
2. Any B&B a couple hours outside DC: Somewhere quiet and zen. Since I have to fly a lot for work it's nice to NOT be at an airport.
3. Winter Park, CO: Love, LOVE the skiing and non-existent lift lines.
I haven't been enough places to decide - before making a decision, I'd want to go to Colorado, Arizona, California, Maine, and a few others.
ditto this. although i'm not a native, i lived in NY almost as long as i lived in MA and a lot of my "chosen family" is still there. i feel just as home in NYC as i do in MA. possibly more so.
Well, I won't count Maine, since we go there every year and it's my favorite place in the whole world. It just . . . doesn't count.
So I would have to say Northern California. I had never been to CA before my friend moved out there and honestly didn't think I would like it that much, but I do. It's beautiful (the whole state is, really, and I've driven it top to bottom). I love San Francisco, and that it's so close to wine country and what is really a pretty rural/agricultural area. Plus there's Muir Woods and all those other parks, and Big Sur which is totally amazing . . . it's a lot of natural scenic attractions combined with some pretty cool urban areas and industries. And I love the mindset--people are much more laid back. I would totally move there if I didn't need my family to help out with kids for the next few years.

I love the whole area encompassing San Francisco, Napa/Sonoma, and Yosemite National Park. San Francisco is one of my favorite cities - there's so much to do, great food, and a laid-back atmosphere. Napa and Sonoma are all about good wine and good food - how can you go wrong? And I think Yosemite is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.
