Photo Cards??

I usually order our Christmas photo cards from Shutterfly or some place like that, but they are so expensive.  :(  I have the 75 free 4x6 coupon from Kendra (Thanks Kendra!!) so I was thinking maybe this year I would just use that and print the pics and then either buy cards and put the photos in them, or buy the type of cards that actual hold a photo??  Do you think I'll end up spending just as much if I do that??  We need about 65 cards, and right now if I do 75 on Shutterfly they are about 94 cents each. I think it would be cheaper to just by the prints and card seperately.

Any idea where I could get cute cards that would hold the photo?  I have a super cute card already designed on Shutterfly that I'm trying to talk myself out of spending all that money ordering!  :)  So need to find an equally as cute alternative.  :)

Re: Photo Cards??

  • Do you belong to Costco? They have 6x7.5 size photo cards. It's $14.99 for 50 of them and then $5.49 for each additional 25. They are really nice quality and they have some really cute designs! I got them last year and will be getting them again this year.  If you don't have a membership, I can order them for you if you would like!

Here is the link, hopefully it works.

  • Card stock paper, envelopes and acid free glue from Hobby Lobby.

Cut card stock (they have Christmas themed paper) paper 1/4"-1/2" larger than picture.

Print a cute saying on white paper.  Cut then glue to the backside of the card stock.

Glue picture to the front side.  Stuff in envelope and your good to go.  You could even add a ribbon or a snowflake for extra fanciness.

I've done this several times over the years and saved a few dollars.

edit- have the boys help.  Even though Elsie is not that good at using the glue or cutting, it's something fun to do together and the finished product isn't always perfect, but the time spent making it is priceless and people get a kick out of the handmade stuff.

  • I've seen the photo-holder cards at TJ Maxx, Marshall's and Big Lots in the past. This may be a long-shot, but one year I happened to find the CUTEST photo-holder cards at Dollar Tree. Embarrassingly, I dressed our cat in a Santa hat and used them to hold the photo. He looked so peeved, but people loved it. :) Good luck.

  • Thanks for the reminder about Costco Amy! There is a pretty good one on their site that I think would work and be about 1/4 of the cost!!  :)  Don't have a membership anymore, but my cousin works there so if she can't get them, I'll let you know!
  • Do you happen to be proficient in Photoshop or any other photo tools?  I'm not, but I usually have a friend make me a card in photoshop (or whatever) that incorporates my photo, which is sent to me as a .jpg.  Then I can use anyone's cheap printing services to print those out.  The whole card in one like the regular ones everyone has.  Just an idea :)
