I've only been at work for 45 mins...

And I'm already in tears!

The institution where I work is starting to charge for parking in January 2012 instead of charging an admissons fee.  Without getting into too many details about the actual issue, it is making my work incredibly difficult.  I work with volunteers almost every day of the week, and they are being forced to become members (to get free parking) or to pay for parking (standard U of M rate $1.20/hr).  Personally, I don't think volunteers should have to pay for parking, but what I think doesn't matter.  I guess what they think doesn't matter either, because the institution is going along with this anyway.

So, the real issue is that I have to deal with volutneers b!tching at me about it (like I have any power) and I've had two of my BEST people resign.  And, I have to go to a banquet tonight for a mission related group that uses our facilties (for free) but will not have to pay for parking - I'm sure I'll hear it from them, too.

  • I can see why you're frustrated.  I'm sure you will get all the complaints about it and people will be mad at you and the issue is completely out of your hands.

I work at U of M and every year when we have our satisfaction survey they tell us that parking is not an issue that they can fix so please don't bring it up and every single year tons of people put comments about it in the survey, it comes up in every single staff meeting, etc...

  • I agree, parking is always a problem with U of M.  It sucks!  I hope it all works out, and like PP said, unfortunately there's not much you can do about it Sad

  • I agree with you.  I think if you are making volunteers PAY to park you are going to have a lot of them resign.

  • Ugh.  What a day!  I'm SO glad it's over!

I talked to another staffer re: the volunteer situation, and she made me feel a little better.  I'm just so tired of hearing about it.

Blerg.  Thanks for listening to my crazy.
