  • If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? What location would you meet them at?

  • What's your favorite memory of something you and E have done since you got married?

With holiday season approaching, have you started any new traditions that you intend to keep up?  Have you scrapped any old ones?

  • I would want to meet my Aunt Renee. She died from MD a year before I was born. She was my Mom's closest confident and best friend. I got my middle name from her. Strangely I look like her. I would want to meet her and spend time with her since she sounds like a really amazing woman and I know my Mom really misses her still.

My favorite memory recently is one of the days from our trip to Spain earlier this year. One lazy day in Granada we sat around a square drinking sangria, eating tapas and listening to the musicians play. We had no plans we just really sat and enjoyed being there. It still makes me happy to think of it.

The only real tradition DH and I have is getting ornaments from places we travel. Sadly I forgot this past time. I think I may make one for our tree this year.

I think the one tradition that I am going to try really hard to scrap is us giving our gifts early . Eric (Dh) and I have a terrible time keeping things from each other and always give our gifts early.

The one that comes to mind is Super8. It felt like a throw back to the movies I watched as a kid. Like Goonies.

What's the last book you read? Do you recommend it?

I just finished rereading Roman Blood. it's a Historical Fiction detective story based in Ancient Rome. I'm a huge historical fiction reader so I really enjoyed it. It's also a series which is really good for me. I need big books or series since I read fast.

Where do you want to go next on your next trip? Why?

DH and I are considering a few places. We want to go to South America, Perhaps Argentina. We want to go to South America because it would be a very different from other places we've traveled. It would also be nice to travel where the dollar is worth more. The other place we are thinking about is going back to France, We went to Paris for a few days and that wasn't enough.

I want these boots. I love the colored zipper.

I think my new years resolution is to keep on running and keeping up the healthier lifestyle that I started back in May. I've lost about 15 lbs and 2 dress sizes. I would also like to work up to run a 10k and go from there.

Any tips for those of us trying to get back to a healthy lifestyle? (Congrats on the loss, btw!)

For me in May I realized I was going to have to move up to another clothing size, and I was not cool with it. I was also getting down at what I saw in the mirror. So I decided I had to change things.

    1. Eating out less. I cook almost every meal at home, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.  This has also meant that Dh has lost about 12lbs and his heart rate has gone down significantly.

Also apart of that I wanted to know what I ate so I logged my calories in SparkPeople.com. For me seeing the fat, sodium and calories in the food I was eating was scary enough to make me really change my ways.

    2. I also quit drinking anything alcoholic for the most part. Which also fell into the eating out category. "One or two" glasses of wine at dinner add up. I still do drink but it's more of a social thing every now and again thing.

    3. No junk food. I've tried really hard to stick with this. I've tried to make healthy things my junk food. Instead of chips, candy, pasteries. I've replaced it all with raw almonds, fresh fruit and yogurt. It helps me cure the sweet cravings I always have. The almonds I buy are parceled out into portions from Trader Joe's so I know what I'm consuming.

I don't consider myself on a diet ever. I have just adapted my eating choices. I still eat out, I will still eat a cupcake, I just know I can't do it everyday like I was.

    4. As for working out. This realm is still new for me. I started with the Couch to 5k program, it really helped me. I need steps and to feel like I've passed goal points for me to keep going.  Now I run everyday. I also need goals or else I'll become a total slacker so I've got two 5k's coming up.  One on the 18th of November and one in December. It means I can't slack off and quit running or else I won't be able to run in the race and not pass out. I ran my first one in October so I want to beat my time, and it's a rush to run with everyone else.

I have a very competitive nature so I have tuned myself into making a game of everything it helps keep me going.

We go on fancy dress up dates every few months.  I hope to go out soon for my Birthday soon. :)

My favorite thing to do lately though staying in, buying a really amazing cheese, some prosciutto, fresh bread and  I'll season olive oil. We will watch one of our favorite shows and chow down. Really lazy, really simple and perfect when work is hectic.

Thanks It's been a fun ride. Now to just keep it up. I would like to drop 10 more pounds.

Are you reading anything right now?

I am re-reading the series I mentioned earlier about ancient Rome. I've jumped ahead to the 4th book in the series. I wish the author would write faster. :)

  • Durrrr, I knew I'd read something about a book.  I bet Derek would like that series, I'll have to check it out!

What types of books do you normally read?  You said you read quickly, so I'll guess you read a fair bit too.

I do read very fast. I can usually chew through an 800 page book in a few days. That's why I read a lot of series books. The Roman series is by Steven Saylor, it's pretty interesting and includes real people. The first book is about the first murder case that Cicero ever tried. You can actually read what he argued.

Historical fiction is one of my favorites. Herman Wouk, John Jakes.

I really really wish that Stig Larssen hadn't died. I loved where his series was going and there were supposed to have been more.

I thought the Sookie Stackhouse books were fun but they've kind jumped the shark.

If anyone has any huge books or series to recommend I'm all ears.

  • Awesome, I'll check that out.  He loves ancient Greek/Roman stuff.

Song of Fire and Ice!  The first book is Game of Thrones and it was good.  I normally read fantasy, and they are pretty tame as far as the fantasy aspect is concerned.

I will check that out. I am hoping to get some amazon.com giftcards for Christmas so I can add to my kindle collection. :)

Tell Derek if he likes ancient Rome/Greek stuff The Sand Reckoner by Gillian Bradshaw is good. A lot of her books deal with similar subjects and are good.

Steven Saylor also has two other Rome books, Roma, and Empire that go from the beginnings of Rome to after the Republic falls.  It follows a family and is a really good read.

My favorite design style is modern. I love the simplicity of it.

If I wasn't in my current profession I would still have to be creative. I would probably gravitate towards graphic design. I have a love of typography.

If it wasn't a creative job. I would want shake it all up and be a professional cook.
