Photos of your LO

Hi ladies, I'm not normally on this board but I figured you could help me out!  I am looking for a good photography studio to have pictures taken of my 4 month old.  I had pictures taken at the hospital which were pretty good.  I had a family photo shoot scheduled (outdoors) for when he was 3 months old, but the weather never cooperated.  It's now getting too cold/yucky to do the outdoor session, so I am looking for in-studio pictures of him.  I went to BRU / Kiddie Kandids yesterday and was less than thrilled.

Any suggestions?  Where do you take LO?

  • Not sure where you're located, but I had great experiences taking my LOs to Portrait Innovations in Northville. There are no sitting fees and they almost always feature some type of promotion to get you in the door. There are other locations as well - Brighton, Sterling Heights and Rochester Hills. We've done 2 in-studio sessions there and were very pleased.

ETA: They say appointments aren't necessary, but they do take them. I made appointments both times only because I didn't feel like waiting with 2 infants. Wink GL!

I second portrait innovations, I go to the one in Sterling heights and have always loved the pictures.   I agree make an appt. and avoid the weekends if possible! Or at least the middle of the day weekends, go first thing or towards the evening. My first time was a nightmare, but the pictures turned out great!

  • Another vote for Portrait Innovations.  Just a word of caution- the holiday season is insane so you get large groups of people trying to do family pictures.  IT can be hectic, especially with a baby.  You definitely need an appointment and I'd suggest one as early in the day as possible before the crowds begin.

  • I recommend my wedding photog every time I get the chance.  She does great work.  It's not so much studio style, but she can do indoors.  She is amazing to work with and takes great photos.

  • I hated Portrait Innovations.  That place is a crazy house, literally taking appt. every 15 minutes and running behind beacuse of the consultations they have afterwards.  Everyone who goes does not know about the $9.99 deal for one pose so there are plenty of parents who are getting "sold" on more expensive packages.   I went to get pix taken that were not around a holiday and it was ridiculous. I did go on a Saturday, so maybe if you can go during the week it would be better and less hectic.

All of the studios have pretty good deals as long as you are able to resist going crazy and getting ALL the cute pix of your LO.  If you only want one pose, JC Penney or Sears are both fine.
