Help: My huge giant enormous pet peeve

"It's November I can't even THINK about Christmas right now," or "It's not even Thanksgiving, why is Christmas being shoved down our throats"  etc.

You all know I do retail and our floor and music is 100% Christmas now and I've been getting this.  People, STFU.  It happens like this every year and your complaining does nothing.  Companies would not be putting out the product if it didn't sell.  The fact is, I AM selling Christmas product already.  People like this just drive me up the wall.

I don't want to just smile and nod because then they'll think I agree with them.  I for one love emerging myself in the Christmas a few shifts a week.  I just need something polite I can say to them that indicates I disagree.  All I can think of is, "Actually, I've been selling a lot of holiday items already."

Any other ideas?

  • I hate people like that. Of course, my house is already decorated (partially) for Christmas. Embarrassed I do have a some what logical reason for doing this though!

I like what you've thought of. Maybe "You might not want to think about Christmas right now, but many other people like to start the Holidays early?" or if you want to be mean..."don't go shopping if you don't want to see Holiday stuff".

I like those but corporate really frowns on alienating the customer.  We have so few as it is, I need to charm the pants off every single one.  Oh well, I guess I'll just have to grin and bear it.

  • I like the thought of saying that many people like to get their Christmas shopping done early.  Or at the very least that people like to see options well before the mad rush in order to get gift ideas ready.

I admit that I am one of those people who complain about Christmas stuff being up and out before Thanksgiving, but this year I was glad to see it all out already.  I need to buy stuff to be ready for a Thanksgiving/house decorating party.

Now, if I could only find a decent (read non-cartoony) Nativity scene.  I have only seen Precious Moments ones and ones where the characters are koalas -- I cannot decide if that one was sacrilegious or hilariously funny.

I don't mind being held to a higher standard; I mind being held to a lower one. (Sam Seaborn, The West Wing)

  • that would really bother me! I love love love Christmas, and I'm itching to start decorating!

I would probably say something like, "but it's so cheery!" or "it's such a wonderful time of the year!" ...the second would work really well if that song was playing in the background haha.

I think you're lucky to be surrounded by it already!

Yes! I would keep it light and breezy, like "but it's the most wonderful time of the year!" Or "Holiday music/decor sure beats being surrounded by slasher soundtracks/ghosts!" or "we thought about starting decorations in July!" I think I'd try to make a joke out of it, if at all possible.

  • Those are actually some great suggestions!  I like the "But it's so cheerful!" Because it really is.

Melko - Pink Sugarplum is our new holiday body care scent and there are three of us at work who are obsessed with it.  It's very sweet.  Winter Candy Apple is amazing, too.  There are lots of deals going on right now, too.
