Re: CD Users: Bac-Out?

  • I haven't. Are you having stink issues?
  • Yesssssss. :(

I feel like I've tried everything under the sun... bleach, stripping, soaking, switching detergents. I know my pregnancy nose probably isn't helping matters but the stink is unbearable. Amonia- nasty!!

  • Is it the BGs? Those are the only dipes we have stink issues with. BLAH. I'm totally selling all of them and replacing them when the next kiddo comes along.

With that being said, we've tried bac-out, and like everything else, it only worked temporarily.

Yes. :( And sadly, they are the only diapers that we like. DH wants to sell them and switch to disposables completely. SIGH.

It's the microfleece. So long as the dipe isn't microfleece there aren't any stink issues. We really like our Blueberries so I think we'll go mostly that route and add more prefolds (we LOVE PFs!)

  • Have you tried using MORE detergent? Like, if you're using Charlie's--use 1.5-2 scoops instead of one?

You know what's weird? We had some stink issues for a while (not terrible, but they really reeked whenever she peed), and they were miraculously resolved... when we got our Samsung front-loader washer. I'm not saying replace your washing machine, LOL, but I just thought it was odd since so many people complain about CDs with front-loaders. Even our daycare lady was like, "How come the diapers don't stink anymore?"

I'm sorry you're having issues, but usually stink = not clean enough, which in my mind = not enough detergent. I would give that a try!

I've been using 2-3 scoops of RnG... maybe I should try 3-4?

And Jenn, it's the inserts that smell- not the diapers!

  • Oooh, if it's just the inserts--what about regular ol' chlorine bleach? (Wash them separately from your covers, of course.) Have you tried that, or have you been using the non-chlorine (color-safe) kind?

I would bleach the crap out of them and then do rinses.

The other thing--what is your current wash routine? Do you use hot water to wash? It's more effective at removing the detergent from the diapers. As I'm sure you know, stink can be caused by detergent build-up, too.

  • Hmm, that I have not tried! I've only used the color-safe crap. I'm going to try it tonight... thanks! :)

We currently do cold rinse, hot wash, cold rinse... it's definitely an ammonia smell which I didn't think was from the detergent, but who knows.

I hope that works... I don't want to give up!

  • Replace the inserts with PFs :-)
