Anyone with low vitamin D?

I found out last week that my vitamin D level is super low. I started taking a supplement and doing a little research. Anyone else have his issue? What are you doing to treat it? Notice any changes? Did you have symptoms?

Re: Anyone with low vitamin D?

  • Raising hand.    I take about 5000mcg's a day.

I think that I notice that I have a little more energy; but then I am Iron Deficient and B12 too, so I am on meds for that.    And no symptoms at all.

  • Yes, my OBGYN tested me this pregnancy (I think it's a regular test she does?) and she found that it was low, so she put me on Vitamin D supplements (I think I am 4,000 daily).  I haven't really seen a difference either way, but I still take them (didn't know anything was "wrong" until the doc told me).  So, I just keep taking it until she tells me to not.  Are the symptoms low energy?
  • Yes, I told him I'm tired all the time. I thought it might be thyroid. I also found out I have high cholesterol. It was fine 6 months ago. I'm a mess!
  • Me.  I take a super high dose once a week.  My symptoms were very low energy - so much so I took a pregnancy test because I was falling asleep at stop lights.  My mood swings were also more pronounced...like they need any help.

Are we the same person? I had my annual in October and I found out my Vitamin D is low and my cholesterol is high. I haven't done anything about either yet though. I just found out and I've been a tad preoccupied with other stuff.

Exhaustion due to pregnancy and Vitamin D deficiency = completely useless me by 730.

  • Me! Me! Me!

I take a high dose twice a week, it's an Rx.   I tried to back off and only take it once a week and my vitamin D dipped really quickly.   I am also hypothyroid.    My cholesterol is not the best either.

  • I just found out too and it was a big surprise to me since I'm on the pool deck for a few hours 2-3 times a week. I've been trying to be good with sunscreen and that blocks Vit D absorption. Dr. prescribed 50000 units once a week and testing again in 3 months.

I've been tired but just thought it was because of being crazy busy. My TSH  and cholesterol were also a little high so I'm sure that didn't help either. Back to eating Cheerios ...

This is me...I got blood drawn and an ultrasound on Friday on my thyroid...hypothyroidism runs in the family. I just want an answer so I can finally move forward and start to feel better.

  • Yes.  It just showed up on routine bloodwork, I had no idea.  I am tired a lot,but I think I'm just tired a lot.  I haven't noticed a pronounced difference in energy level, but I am taking the supplement anyway.
  • Yes, I take a high prescription dose once a week. I was also very tired all the time. My levels are fine when I take the supplement.

  • Did you know 90% of american are Vitamin D deficient? It's actually a very common occurance. We had a nutritionist come to one of our bootcamps and talked to us a lot about it. Vitamin D also helps with tummy fat! If I can find the article I will copy it here...

  • I take a 50,000 IU dose once a week.  My doc suggested I get it from BioTech.  I think it was about $20 for 100 capsules.

Do you just take your script there or do you need a script for it?   I take that dose twice a week and they only give me a month's worth at a time, so it's like 8-10 pills I get at a time for $10!

No script needed.  I ordered them from Amazon.  I told her I was tired of paying $10 for a few pills and she agreed it was crazy, so she pointed me there.

  • I think the acceptable levels changed. It is the latest thing to be low on vitamin D. I was told this back in the spring. During my annual physical it was not an issue. I did nothing different.

Thank you so much!  I'm sick of paying $10 for a few pills too.
