Does anyone else spend time lusting over houses even though they're not seriously in the market?
Becoming a nomad this year has strengthened my desire to plant roots again by buying a house at some point but I have no idea where we will end up buying or when.
Anyone have suggestions for communities in Orlando or Tampa or somewhere in between where you can actually walk to some shops and restaurants (without risking becoming road kill)?
Re: I'm in love
It links to a list, but not to a specific house.
Hyde Park
Davis Island
Ybor (ha!)
Seminole Heights... kind of.
Thanks. I fixed it. Why do you say "kind of" to Seminole Heights?
I wish there were more walkable neighborhoods in FL. This is going to be our retirement home so I want to be able to walk places when I get too old to drive.
Never mind, found it. That looks lovely.
I'm spending that night at your house when you buy it.
The only thing I can think of Orlando wise would be someplace like Celebration.
If my family all moved there too, I'd love to live in Key West. Alas, the whole point of eventually buying a house in FL is to be close to family and Key West isn't close to anything.
I think you've got an adorable house already though and most of your family is within driving distance so that's not bad.
I won't be moving to Orlando ever but if I did, I would love to live in that area right around Lake Eola. My friend's parents own a condo there and I stayed there for a weekend in April and it was amazing. I walked to panera, and there was a huge morning market all around the lake. There are tons of restaurants and shops to walk to. It's just do gorgeous. It's right near downtown.
I hope to move to Westchase in the future. I work over here and it's just very nice and clean to me (growing up in Miami I didn't know of anything like this). I like the shops at West Park Village and just the overall atmosphere. I love Hyde Park BUT the parking sucks and there are too many young people for when I get older.. I know I would get sick of red cups thrown in my yard on a Saturday night. I have friends that own a bungalow 2 blocks from Howard so we love being able to walk to the bars and restaurants now, but as far as having a family, it's just not private enough for me. Kids really can't play in the streets over there and it's getting to rowdy at night.
Then you might like this little house I've been crushing on:

I'd be ready to pull out my checkbook if I had the cash flow for it right now. It's three blocks from Lake Eola.
Thanks
Yes, we love our house, but it's not in KW. I agree, KW is not near anything. It's an 8hr drive from our current house. My Dad & DH talk about moving to KW at least once during dinner. My Dad has gone as far to look for jobs (for me) there. He is serious. ha
Here is a list of the places I dream of living in Orlando. They are in order of my favorite locations....
1. Downtown Orlando (Lake Eola, Thorton Park, Delaney Park, etc)
2. Winter Park
3. College Park
4. Baldwin Park
5. Windermere
6. Lake Nona
Are you guys thinking of moving?

We'll probably buy a house in FL within the next few years. A retirement home and somewhere we can send my MIL to live if she doesn't want to move in with us once she gets too old to work. I thinking long-term, though, and want to be near my family and in a nice walkable neighborhood. Schools are less important since our kids will probably never live there.
