[POLL] What temp is your thermostat at?

When DH finally decided it was cold enough to turn the heat on this year, he dropped our day and night temperatures down quite a bit. Although I am all for saving money and not burning as much oil (and therefore helping out the environment), I've been wearing my fluffy fleece bathrobe from LLBean just about as soon as I walk through the door from work. So, that got me thinking...[Poll]

  • 68 when we're awake, 62 when we're asleep or not home.

  • 64 awake, 60 at night

  • our oil thermostat is on 65, but our pellet stove is on 70 - and we have an electric heater running on "low"

the oil really only comes on in the AM and when the pellet run out.

DH has loosed up a little this year so far with having it not frozen nose cold in here all the time.

  • 65 while we're asleep, 69 awake ( unless it's rainy or snowing or I'm home without DH and then it's 70 )

DD's room was turned down to 67 this year at night. So far she seems to be ok. I like it warm :)

We have a lot of zoned in our house so rooms we don't use we keep at 60 all day.

  • I'm kind of a special snowflake. We were without our pellet stove for a couple weeks because of our kitchen renovations. Our thermostat was set at 62 (I'm more of a 72 degree kind of girl). Now that the pellet stove is back the thermostat is at 60 and the pellet stove is set to about 70, I would say that the oil thermostat typically reads the room temp to be 64.

  • Well, I keep forgetting to reset it from the summer A/C mode... right now it's at 70 and we wake up freezing during the night. The heat doesn't get upstairs very well. We need to put our comforter on... that might help Smile. I think I'll end up setting it for 65 during the time we're home and 60 when we aren't home.
  • upstairs: 56 during the day, and now 65 at night (only because of baby, previously 59 overnight)

downstairs: 60 during the day, about 67/68 when we're home/awake.  We also hang sheets/curtains in the hallways to keep the heat in the rooms we use.

  • We love our programmable thermostat... 67 when we're home, 62 for work and sleepy time. (Though I'd rather 69-70 when we're awake- I use a lot of blankets and sweatshirts in the winter!)

  • Right now it's set at 52. (DH and I both run warm) We've turned the heat on once so far this year for about a half hour. Our house gets a TON of sunlight so once the sun comes up during the day it heats up pretty well in here. Our house is also pretty small, so when we shut the doors for all the spare bedrooms, and get the oven going around dinner time, the heat from that warms up the kitchen, LR & DR pretty nicely. At night we shut our bedroom door and it stays pretty warm in our room with us and the dog all in there.

The only other thing we've been using to get the chill out of the air in the morning or sometimes in the evening is a little electric space heater that heats up whatever room we're in pretty well (since like I said it's a small house). I just turned it on in the bedroom and within 5 minutes I could feel a difference.  I figure it's much cheaper than oil heat and since we don't have individual thermostats in each room, I'd rather use this to warm up whatever room we're in, than turn the oil heat up to heat the entire house.

  • 68 in the main living area, 65 in the master suite. Some mornings I do bump the temp up to 70 in the main area if it feels chilly and we have no plans to go out, then turn it right back down.

  • At night we keep it at 58 (I prefer 55) and during the day at 63 (I prefer 60). With our cape on one thermostat it gets really hot upstairs when heating the downstairs. And my husband is skelator and has no body fat to keep him warm.

Oh lord, mine too. Well, not husband, but he's skeletor, and is always cold. I keep it around 63.

  • It would be so much better for me financially if I could stand to have the heat set at a lower temperature. I'm only comfortable when it's around 70 degrees in my house. When it gets below 68 I start to break out heavy sweaters and blankets. If it gets below 65 my fingers and toes and the tip of my nose turn into icicles. Since I have 2 dogs, DH, and warm blankets to keep me toasty at night, we turn it down to about 60 when we sleep but our adjustable thermostat is set to turn up to 68 at 7am so it's nice and warm by the time we get out of bed. It's at 68 whenever we're home and awake, 60 when no one's home.
  • I am officially a baby; we keep our heat at 70.

  • We keep the oil at 55 - really just as a backup for the pellet.  I don't think we've used the oil to actually heat the house since we installed the pellet stove.  Pre-pellet stove DH was hardcore - 60 when we were home, 55 when we weren't or were asleep.  With the pellet stove though, I've really gotten him to loosen up.  He mostly handles the controls, but I think we keep it at 60 when we're not there or asleep and between 68 and 72 when we're around.
