(SORRY!) Where to stay in Sydney?
I'm probably doing your head in already but I would really appreciate recommendations of areas/hotels to stay in Sydney.
We're looking at staying a week in February and the ILs will be in Pyrmont. Proximity is not a must as we'd like to do our own thing while there & we'll be staying with them for a week later in our holidays.
Any thoughts?

because it's summer I really think you should consider staying by the beach
I'm partial to Manly since I live here
the novotel is really nice, as is the sebel, but there are also quite a few nice b&bs and smaller hotels too 
darling harbour is another option - lots of big hotels there, lots of places to eat, go out, etc
