PSA for Kindle owners

I just got on Amazon.com and this message came up:

Today we're announcing a new benefit for Kindle owners with an Amazon Prime membership: the Kindle Owners? Lending Library.

Kindle owners can now choose from thousands of books to borrow for free, including over 100 current and former New York Times Bestsellers ? as frequently as a book a month, with no due dates.

You can start borrowing books today. Not sure about the selection yet, but I'm off to browse.

Re: PSA for Kindle owners

  • What is amazon prime?
  • In principle that sounds great if you've got prime, but 1 book / month??? I regularly read 1 book every 2 days or every day on a weekend.1 book/month won't even pay for the prime membership, I don't think (depends on the books, of course).

I rip through an insane amount of books as well, but it could save some money - assuming the selection is good. $6.58 is the break-even point. If you buy one book a month worth more than than then you're saving money by having the prime account.

$79/year for free 2 day shipping on your orders and discounted next-day delivery. And now 1 book a month from the kindle owner's lending library.

  • And streaming of movies and tv shows, but does that mean you buy them and then can watch them on your computer? I must admit that I didn't quite understand what it entailed. And since I haven't yet spent a cent on novels, I think I'll stick to regular library lending!
