QOTD Tuesday (clean vs messy)

How clean is your house right now? If someone stopped by unexpectedly, would you be embarassed or totally cool with how your house looks?

Re: QOTD Tuesday (clean vs messy)

  • It's actually pretty clean. I was able to vacuum this weekend and clean the bathroom, and we've been staying on top of the kitchen. DS has even been helping put his toys away lately.

The bed's not made, but I wouldn't be embarrassed if anyone came by.

  • There are some toys on the floor, but otherwise, the bathrooms are respectable, I sweeped/vacuumed the floor last night and the kitchen is tidy.

In general, our house tends to be "clean" but with a little bit of baby toys/destruction on the floor.

  • Having just cleaned this weekend, I would be fine with it.  A week ago, I may have been a little embarrassed... My house is never filthy, but it's not always as uncluttered as I would like it to be for company.

  • Since DH has been travelling so much lately, and it is just me, my house is very clean.  On any given day, it is about 80% clean, with the exception being the fact that my very fluffy furry pup sheds EVERYWHERE and I would have to vaccuum twice a day to keep up with it.

I'd be mildly embarrassed if someone came over in black pants and sat on my couch, though if I had ten minutes notice I could pull it together to be completely presentable.

Totally different story when DH is around, however.

  • As long as the visitor didn't come up to our bedroom, I would be fine with it.  I hosted a bridal shower on Saturday, so I did a major cleaning on Friday, and I'm doing what I can to keep it that way for as long as possible.

  • The cleaning ladies just came yesterday, so come on over! It's probably good 'til Friday :)

We're a little slackerly when it comes to dealing with our piles of paper and putting away coats and stuff, so it can get to be messy.  But I actively ignore the being embarrassed thing because my mom was so embarrassed by her piles when I was a kid that I was never allowed to let friends inside.  I'm afraid of the slippery slope that can lead to that, so I will air some amount of my slobby side without much embarrassment.  I can just blame it on T anyway :P

  • Our cleaning crew came last Thursday, and everytime they come I get mildly obsessed with maintaining the work they did. So it's pretty clean. Bring it!
  • Except for the tumbleweeds of dog hair, which are pretty much impossible to keep up with, I'd be fine with someone coming by unexpectedly. Things are generally tidy and decently clean at our place. It's easy when your house is tiny!
  • Very tidy and somewhat clean except for the few toys that DS and DD pulled out this morning. We tend to keep it quite tidy so the stuff doesn't overwhelm us. However, if the guests were rude enough to start looking in all the nooks and crannies, it's nowhere near sparkling and could use a deep clean in some areas.
  • my house is clean every other thursday, when the cleaning ladies come!

sometimes, it's still clean by saturday morning. but after the kids get done with it, there is nothing clean about it.

it's usually not messy enough that i'd be embarrassed to have unexpected company - except right now. we are in the middle of purging and getting ready for a huge pick up from purple heart tomorrow. so there is stuff everywhere.

  • Wow, I'm impressed you guys. Our house isn't totally filthy, but I would like about ten minutes to straighten and vacuum before someone walked in. A two year old and two very furry dogs make it pretty impossible to keep "guest ready".
  • RIght now I would be a little embarrased.  Problem is, you enter the house and  you go straight into our living room (which is the main room we use).  So the table is messy from last night and I am not sure I put the empty popcorn bowl in the sink at 2 am....

I would not have to go into witness protection, but I would be a little embarrased.

  • The formal living room is perfect (since we are never, EVER in there) and the kitchen/family room are decent as is the main floor half bath. So I can put on a good show... were they to enter our less public rooms? Well, they'd see a rather different picture.
  • I would be embarrassed right now.  We did a lot of laundry over the weekend and haven't put it away yet, we need to wash dishes, the bathroom needs cleaning, the floor needs vacuuming...

My dream is to have a cleaning lady.

  • We keep our more formal living room, kitchen and downstairs bathroom fairly guest-ready (although the living room really needs to be dusted), but our family room, bedrooms and upstairs bathrooms are pretty awful right now. LO's bedroom is ok, though.

We also desperately need to vacuum, but our old vacuum isn't really working and we can't decide on a replacement.

  • The cleaning ladies come tomorrow so the house is pretty much at its dirtiest today - although we did a big clean-up last Friday and Saturday to get ready for weekend company but four toddlers can really turn clean into dirty quickly.  Would I care if someone came over, not really.  I've never let my messy habits interfere with socializing.  I might apologize for the mess and then move on but if my friends are bothered by my unsorted mail, toys on the floor, and breakfast dishes in the sink, well, I am not certain they would be the ones to drop over unannounced.
  • It's clean.

I vacuum every other day and pick up mail/clothes/dog toys on a daily basis.

  • The cleaning ladies came a week ago and I tend to be a neat person to start, so the house is clean. Plus DH is gone until next week, so the house will remain clean :)

So I would totally be fine if someone showed up.

  • I would want about 20 minutes to put away some clutter, vacuum the rug in our living room, and sweep the kitchen floor. M had cheerios for breakfast this morning, and they never stay in the bowl.

  • i wouldn't want anyone seeing my apartment right now. despite the fact that we have a small amount of space, no kids, and no pets, it's still pretty messy at the moment. it is "clean" but definitely very cluttered. after hosting for two weekends last month, we've gotten lazy in the past few weeks.

  • While it would not be on an episode of hoarders, I would be a little embarrassed at the state of it. But we don't have people over often.

DH and I have been slacking for the past few weeks since we were so busy in the month of October. We'll clean it this weekend and the following week since he has a friend and his GF who are staying with us the next weekend.

  • normally, I am obsessively clean. BUT -- after the ceiling leak, I canceled the maids that week (two weeks ago) bc I didn't want to pay them to come when the drywall dust was going to be everywhere. I then got a promotion, and decided to use the raise to pay a painter to come in and fix it all and make it purty for the holidays. That started last weekend, and will continue on weekends only (we pay cash, get a great discount, but it takes a lot longer) which means the first floor is still in a HUGE bit of disarray. The maids are coming tomorrow, ceiling be damned, bc I just can't stand it any more.

Long way of saying - if you came today, I'd be mortified.

    "What is a week-end?"
  • Our cleaning lady came Saturday, so it's currently clean.  She's our monthly treat (and compromise) since I'm a clean freak...and H...well....isn't.  Plus my parents and brother are visiting this weekend, so we have to keep it up, much to H's chagrin.
  • Our house is a filthy mess.  We're moving on Sunday so people are going to see it anyway.  The area rugs are sort of dusty and in need of vacuuming, but there's no point until we move all of the boxes out.

  • our bathrooms are gross. the basement has laundry all over it. the livingroom/dining room is still in shambles as we only got part of the it put back together post floor renovations. if someone stopped by i would be embarrased but hope they would understand.
  • Ours is pretty clean. I wouldn't be embarrassed to have guests, but I'd ideally like at least 10 minutes to tidy up, namely sweeping the bathroom floor, which gets covered in (my) hair after only a day or 2 of cleaning it.
  • Slightly embarrassed.  I have been stuck to the couch for the last two days so I'd need 10 minutes or so to pick up some thing.  (Granted even if I hadn't been stuck to the couch I'd probably still need 10 minutes to pick up)
  • I would be embarrassed because I am the biggest neat freak and perfectionist. In reality, the place is very clean and only a few things are out of place (clean laundry on the coffee table, pillows on the floor) But, that's enough to set me on edge.
  • Our house is clean because DH is totally OCD. He is the maid because no cleaning service would ever meet his standards. Now he has relaxed a tad because of DD but our house is still way clean.
