HE Laundry Detergent?

I just had my new washer delivered today and was told that I need to get HE laundry detergent. Does anyone else have a washer that requires that, and what is it exactly? Is it really necessary to use it?

Re: HE Laundry Detergent?

  • I have a washer that is HE, and uses HE detergent.  The HE detergent creates less suds and it is highly recommended that you use it instead of regular detergent.  Some warranties even say they are void if you use regular detergent.  I would switch.  I use Tide, and it costs the same as regular detergent.  :)

  • HE detergent works a little differently...it suds less, works with less water etc  If your machine requires it, it's really the best thing to use for your machine to avoid problems.  Be sure to measure it when you use it (and heck, I even use less than the box says I need to use and my clothes are clean etc).

It used to be more expensive than reg but nowandays it really costs the same (at least the brands I buy) and you use such a small amt.

This. I have HE and use HE detergent. I also use Tide HE.

  • I also use Tide HE. The HE and regular detergent have basically the same packaging, so make sure you get the one that has the little blue HE symbol on the front.

  • yup... i used Tide HE, too. its the same price as regular tide. like other people said, the HE washers use less water and spin differently, etc so the HE detergent is made to work with less water (its makes less suds, etc). a lot of times a warranty can be voided if they find out you were using the regular detergent.
  • I use the All Free and Clear HE - love it!

  • Thanks everyone! I wasn't sure what the difference was and if I really needed it, but I will make sure to pick it up.

  • Like the others, I use Tide HE as well.  I would definitley use HE as opposed to regular. Wouldn't want to ruin that nice new washer of yours Smile

  • @Hope...I don't want to ruin it for sure, I have not used it yet but I already love it! When they tested it I found out that at the beginning and end of a cycle it plays a little song. I know it sounds stupid, but that little song makes the thought of doing laundry not quite such a chore. LOL. The little things in life make me happy.
