S/O - What are you planning to make for the cookie GTG?

I am thinking of making old-school decorated sugar cookies.

Do you have a recipe or type of cookie in mind?

Re: S/O - What are you planning to make for the cookie GTG?

  • I am one of the people bringing a non-cookie appetizer:)

  • I spent a lot of time looking at cookie recipes last weekend, and have narrowed it down to either iced lemon cookies or peanut brittle cookies.

  • No idea! I need to do some research.

I'm so excited about this. Last year it was a blast and I'm looking forward to coming child-free this year. I will have more hands for cookie eating and drinking yummy hot chocolate.

    Can't wait!

  • I've done English toffee bars for the last few GTGs and find the recipe scales up well. I'm making them again unless someone replies here "Oh no, those things are terrible, make something different this year."

  • In an ideal world, I'd like to make chocolate hazelnut cookies. However, I'm having a hell of a time finding hazelnuts. I already checked Trader Joe's and Whole Foods with no luck. Anyone know where I can find them?

  • I am still debating, but I was leaning towards shortbread....
  • I haven't decided yet.  I planned on figuring it out this weekend!  I'd like to do a chocolate cookie with peppermint chips (if I can find them, I might have to just use smashed up candy canes.)  But I'm still open to other ideas.
  • WNW - I found them recently in the bulk section of Wegmans.
  • I make martha stewarts sugar cookies with royal icing (makes the cookie soften)

I'll never do a cut out decorated cookie for a swap again :) it took me too long

Id like to make something chai or kahlua flavored.

  • Has the invite already gone out?  If so, I didn't get it.  Would someone mind sending it to me?  vajunebride07 at gmail dot com.  Thanks!
  • I'm going to make gooey butter cookies and maybe also some linzer style cookies.

  • You all are so creative! I will probably do something basic and simple like snickerdoodles, or something with caramel.

  • I'm thinking just simple oatmeal raisin unless I can coax something better out of my mom!  She's the baking queen...

I've actually found them at Giant before in the baking aisle (that's where all the bags of nuts are).

  • I was planning to bring a non-cookie appetizer. I can either do crack dip with crackers or spinach and artichoke dip with tortilla chips.

  • Thanks for the hazelnut ideas! I'll check them out. I was pretty shocked TJ's didn't have them. I found some at a regular grocery store, but they were in the shell. I love you guys, but I'm not cracking nuts for my cookies!

Thomas Market on University in Wheaton.  It's a Mediterrenean market right across the street from Dessie Ethiopian, in the same strip as that "Eco" store, and Christina Italian restaurant.

I have bought both toasted and untoasted hazelnuts there, and I think I remember them being quite reasonable.

You will also find yummy olives and other various meditteranean foods.  I LOVE the Melomakarona cookies they sell by the register.  They are my FAVORITE!

Okay, thanks for deciding for me. Crack dip it will be! I'll either double or triple the recipe and I'll bring crackers to go with it. I can also bring some wine.

They sell them at Giant and Safeway.  I've only noticed them in the smaller sized bags though.
