Relocating from Salisbury MD to DC area (MD side)
My DH and I are contemplating moving to MD side of the DMV area next year. only about 2 hrs from where we live now. Any suggestions? We love the ann arundel county and howard county areas any suggestions what's the best place to live? We don't have any children and are willing to rent (preferably a townhouse/condo or single family home).

Welcome! I'm from Salisbury, so I see the desire to move to this area...haha
Hmmm, if you want to take Metro (preferably) to your job, you'll probably want to look into working at U of Maryland in College Park. I can't think of other Maryland State schools that are Metro accessible. Maybe one or two of the ones in Baltimore are MARC accessible, but I am not sure.
Living in Anne Arundel or Howard County would mean you would have to drive to a Metro station and then Metro to College Park (if you worked at U of MD), but really at the point, you might as well just drive to campus. I guess you could also use the MARC, but that would be a pretty good commute (time wise) to MARC into the city (Union Station), Metro to Chinatown to get the green line, and then Metro to CP. If you are thinking about Anne Arundel county at all, I would probably look more into working at a university in Baltimore or in the Baltimore area...but you'd probably have to just drive to work.
If we were going to move away from the DC Metro area (we live in Arlington now), I would totally move to Annapolis mainly to be close to the Bay. Plus if you have family in Salisbury, the drive would be 90 minutes or less.
If you want to be closer to DC, you might want to look at Silver Spring. That wouldn't be a bad Metro commute to U of Maryland...a few stops on the Red line to Fort Totten and then you could transfer to the green line and go a few stops to CP. I probably wouldn't look at places like Rockville or Bethesda if you want to Metro because you'd have to go all the way through the city which make for one long commute.
Another option would be to live somewhere near Rockville - you could work at the Shady Grove campus.
There are a lot of different living options around there.
