Your mom just turned 48?!?!! OMG. I thought my mom was young at 51. That's amazing.

  • I don't really follow the show either but I've wondered if any of the Duggar kids have rebelled from their way of life. I was homeschooled (NOT with 19 siblings and not in that religious tradition) and I hated it. I pushed away from my family bigtime for several years. I turned out just fine (at least, I'd like to think) and things are fine with my family now, but I know for a fact that a lot of kids who grow up like that eventually rebel to varying extremes. I'm sure the kids are asked to put up a certain front for the tv cameras, but I wonder if all of them are really on board.

  • I don't really watch it, but I think only the oldest is married w/ a baby.  The younger ones may not have had a chance to rebel yet.

What I can't understand is, her last child was born prematurely, almost died, right?  And she's pretty old to be having kids.  Why on earth would you keep having kids knowing the risks?  It seems incredibly stupid, selfish, irresponsible, etc. to have more children at such an advanced age knowing the complications she had with the last one.  End rant.

I don't watch the show either, but this is what I heard this morning.

For her last kid she was pregnant as the same time as her DIL. Her grand kid and youngest kid are about the same age.

They don't believe in, or use, birth control. This is the longest she's gone without being KTFU (2ish years) and she thought she was done having kids till she found out that she was being "blessed" with another little one.  Confused

    From Wikipedia:

The family has discussed the possibility of having more children in an exclusive May 2010 interview with Radar Online.[20] Michelle was quoted as saying:

"We would love more! I'm 44, almost 45 this September. I know that my mommy years are probably numbered, and I don't know how many more children God will see fit to give me.
"It is something we've been praying about because we do love children. Each child really is a gift and that doesn't mean just our children. We asked the Lord to give us a love of children the way He loves children. That is something that we've prayed about, and we'll just see what the Lord has in store for our family in the future."

  • I don't really agree with any couple having that many children (carbon imprints, etc), but at least they are able to financially support themselves.  I hope Michelle Duggar has a safe and healthy 9 months, the last Duggar (Josie) went through so much after the early birth, it would be so sad to see it happen again.

I don't follow the show but I have some qestions. Who's little baby is that sitting right next to the mom? Is that a grand baby? I assume the toddler girl is is Josie. She's terribly cute. All the kids are realy cute. Are there any kids that don't seem to follow the rules/lifestyle. It seems like out of all those children at least one would rebel againt their parent's beliefs. Also, do all the older girls perm their hair or something?

So the oldest son is sitting beside Michelle with his wife and kids so yes those are the grandchildren.. one girl and a boy.

I have no idea if they perm their hair.. it's always wavy.

The way I understood it was the youngest was delivered early because Michelle was having issues with her gall bladder, and had Pre-E, so for the safety of baby and mother they delivered baby early.

Also as for her age.. my mom was 44 when she had my little brother so it's all a matter of perspective. Yes there is more risks, they also say that if you have regularly been having children that the risk is less than it would be for someone who is just having their first at that age.

Then... your rant.. lol Smile Some of the complications could happen to anyone, even with your first child when you are much much younger. The chances of her having Pre-E again are very slim because in general if you have it once doesn't mean that you'll necessarily ever have it again. Same goes for the problems she had with her gall bladder.

and i'm okay with this. i just think that realistically it's hard to live a "normal" life with so many kids in such varying ages. but what's normal, anyways, right?

as for the PP that says they support themselves (and i've read that somewhere too...) ......can they support themselves w/o the show, too? just curious.

Yes, From what I've understood the show is a way that they consider that they are "ministering" to the rest of the world. Even though they don't always come out and say it that way. I've read the book on their family and that's how I understood it from that.

Since I watch the show somewhat regularly, this is what I think (I don't know the actual financial numbers obv)  Without the show, I doubt they would be able to at the same level of "fancy" living (nicer clothes, vacations, etc), there is another family that's on the show who has 17-18 kids and they do not have their own show.  That family is able to support themselves, but you can tell the economic difference between that family and the Duggar family by the general state of the other family's home (the Duggars have had several shows based on the Duggars traveling to the other family's home and helping with home remodeling).

The Duggars do have various businesses/investments, and I think they could support themselves w/o the show if they had to.  Their eldest son owns his own Auto Dealership, and that is how he supports his family (with two kids).

I admire the Duggars, the way they have been able to make sure they are all insured (dental, medical, vision), owning their own home, and clothing and feeding all those kids.

LOL... my dad is almost 5 years older than my mom, so 53. We don't generally think of them as old either.
