Re: Mums Bumps and BBTs
Hooray its Tuesday!
Ups: 32 weeks today! I just noticed that I'm 4th down on the due date list, which is so awesome! I'm still feeling pretty good too, which is helpful. Today, I had the day off of work for my first birthing class- because my midwife only holds birthing classes during the day. Even though I will probably have a c-section, we figured it would be a good idea to attend the birthing class.
Downs: I had such an embarassing moment at my birthing class today! DH and I went together, got to the midwife's house where she runs her classes, and she told DH that the class today and next week was only for the moms. I totally panicked, thinking about it all being in German, and what if I didn't understand something. So, smooth me, I broke down in tears. It took me a freakishly long time to calm down, and then, I had to walk into the room as a puffy, splochy mess. Score one for the crazy foreigner in the birth class!
QOTW: Can't speak to naps with LO, he's not here yet. But, I'm looking forward to reading what others have written, and hope to take away some tips
Ohmyfreakinggod. So strange. Technically, ctgirl you are ahead of me now!
Ups: We had our hospital tour yesterday, finished 90% of the nursery, have my 2nd shower in a couple weeks, I'm feeling great and ready for little man!
Downs: Besides the usual 3rd tri complaints, I can't really think of any! I'm just really excited to meet my son.
QOTD: Yes, please tell me about naps!
My Israel Blog!
Ups: N now has 2 teeth and neither of them disturbed her sleep pattern! In fact I only saw the 2nd one by chance... She's still sleeping her 12 hours every night which is great. She just loves getting into her cot and chat to her rabbit and give him a cuddle!
And this Saturday DH and I are going to have a night away as a treat and my SIL is going to take N - she minds her during the week for us so there will be no stranger issues!
Downs: I'm not sleeping great... I'd say I got around 4/5 hrs last night... feet were freezing and just couldn't nod off for a few hours... and then I keep waking up with weird dreams.
QOTW: Daytime naps are hit and miss though generally good. I'm quite strict and although I don't let her cry it out really I won't pick her up straight away if she cries when I put her down. It usually stops in under a minute if she does it. If she's still crying after a couple of minutes I do go in and comfort her and then put her down again - never leaving the room with her!
She usually has 2 naps - one around 11.30/12 for a couple hours and then around five or so for half hour/hour. During the week its slightly different as my SIL has to collect one of her kids from school at 1.30 so N gets woken at 1 for that so usually takes an hour from 3 or so...
I think the key is to have the nap in roughly the same place at roughly the same time every day... a quiet place with no distractions. It was 3 months before we started to get the daytime naps sorted (slept through from before 2 months!) but perseverance paid off!
And I forgot to say... the first couple of months after the birth, really do take a nap when the baby sleeps!!!! Even if it is just one of the naps each day, just do it... forget the laundry, dishes, dinner, etc... you will need it for your own sanity and you will feel a million times better for it. I know it's a cliche but I did it for her afternoon nap and it is what got me through those first months...
And the housework isn't going anywhere... it can wait!
Ups: I had an HSG last week which showed that my tubes are nice and clear. So all the tests so far have not highlighted any major problems, which is good news, but ...
Downs: ... still not KU. Sigh. We're in cycle 13 now, and we're heading back to the US in a month. I know it sounds whiney, but I had really wanted to be pg then so I could do some shopping, tell our family/friends in person, and not feel jealous of all the babies and bumps we're going to visit. And not have to deal with MIL asking about when we're going to have a baby.
So, there's still some time. I'm in the 2ww now, so I'm just hoping that 13 is lucky for us! Otherwise, we're trying to decide what our next steps are going to be.
Cecilia arrived 12 October 2012
Hi Mouse!
Ups: DS is loving all his cold weather clothes and has been treating me to fashion shows.
Downs: I sprained my ankle on Sunday so the fashion shows are our primary entertainment at the moment
Naps: Welp, DS has always been a craptastic sleeper but his naps went pretty much like this - several times a day as a NB; 2 naps at approximately 9am and 2pm from 6-18 months; 1 nap lasting for anywhere from 1-4 hours starting anywhere from noon to 4 or 5 since then.
Ups: Our little girl will actually be here soon! We're both very excited. We still have a ton to set up and get ready, but I am feeling calmer about it and feel like it will all be sorted in the next week/week and a half.
Downs: Feeling a bit large and heavy, but I guess that's to be expected. Wishing I was on my maternity leave so that I can just focus on baby...3 weeks to go.
Ups: M seems to have some new words. I say seems to because we're not sure, but it seems likely that 'nana' is banana and 'fr' is fruit... W is, as always, super.
Downs: We're on our third bug of the past month? M has been being sick for hte past 24 hours, and W just came down with a temp this aftenroon after nap. Ugh. Sleep is RUBBISH for M, which is doing my head in. We've slowly gone back to newborn wakings (with colds, teething, etc). I want more than 2 hours of sleep.
As a separate note, we had our back to school meeting with W's head teacher, and they had two points of 'concern' (which I found odd at a preschool level, but there you go) - one was his speech (he's struggling with certain 'starting' sounds, and has been referred to a SALT, as a precautionary measure - nothing new there, as he's always been on the slwer end of the curve re: speech - though his comprehension/vocab/understanding/etc are fine, it's just his pronounciation), the other was that he can't peddal. I had no idea that was a measuring stick in nursery. He does have good 'academics' though: his alphabet, his numbers, his colours, etc, etc.
Sorry - that was a book! Just the interesting point of my week I guess!
QOTW:
W still naps and I'm very lucky - although part of me wishes he didn't need it, so we'd have time together in the afternoon, while M naps. When he was diddy, all naps were on me or in the buggy. I then Ferberised him at 9months into his cot. It took a good frew months for him to go down wtihout any crying (maybe 6?). And that was only when he got more of a vocabulary. He naps now for 1-2 hours.
M is currently (mostly) doing 2 naps a day. In the morning it's in the buggy (after we drop W off at nursery), from 30m to 2 hours(rare), but usually about 45-60min. In the afternoon it's a combo of her cot (20-30min) nad then on me while nursing (upwards of an hour or more). It's actually a sticking point for me - I odn' tknow why she won't sleep longer in the cot - she refuses to wake up after 20-30, and roots until I let her nurse, and then sleeps. If W wasn't usually napping at hte same time, I'd try to work on it. Not htat I know how... Ideally, she would get all her sleep in the cot at this point, and not on the boob! But that's the joys of second children...
Ups: LO is starting to like eating purees. After we started we had to stop again because she decided she didn't like it and screamed when it was time, which stressed both of us out. After a 1.5 week break, she's ok again.
Also, we had our best night since her birth 2 nights ago. She went down with little fuss at 8, woke up at 12 to drink a bottle, woke up at 2 to drink a bottle, and woke up at 6:45 for the day. When she woke up at 6:45 I looked at the clock, thinking it was probably around 4 and was shocked! I haven't felt so rested in a really, really long time.
Downs: So much for great sleep. Last night she woke up about 5 times, was really restless which keeps me awake (she sleeps in our room), and she decided 4am was an appropriate time to wake up for the day today. 'Nuff said.
QOTW: I have a choice. Either I rock her to sleep, lay her in her crib, and have 20 min to do things with 2 hands before she wakes up and is ready to go again, or I rock her to sleep, gather some reading material and the remote control, and make myself comfy on the couch with her sleeping on my left arm and have peace and quiet for 2+ hours. 99.99% of the time I choose door #2. For the last couple of weeks she has gone down to 2 daytime naps - one about 3-4 hours after she wakes up (so between 9-11 is when she's ready to sleep), and the other about 2-3 hours after that (somewhere between 1-3 she's ready to nap). Both are now about 1.5-2.5 hours long. We've gone through too many nap phases to list here. I think that's pretty normal for the first 6 months or so. The bad news - if you like how they're napping, it's probably not going to last. The good news - if you don't like how they're napping, it's probably not going to last.
Ups: M is getting used to a friend of mine who comes and plays with him once a week and sees her another time while she does the nursery at church. This is great, as she will be the one to watch him when I go into labor. With him being with on me or DH in Korea he was not keen being with anyone else unless one of us was there. But his confidence is building and looks like all is progressing.
Down: DH leaves for Korea on Sunday and will be gone for a week and I am not all excited about doing all of the parenting myself or how M will deal with daddy being gone. I am trying not to get worry about it.
QOTW: At 4 months, M was doing my head in because he was crying so much for being tire but would not fall asleep, in the stroller, on my boob, in a quiet room nothing. Anyway, read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child and gave some good advice on sleep training as well as stats about how much sleep is needed, what happens when the baby is overtired and bunch of other helpful info. We started sleep training for a moning nap at around 9:00 which last about 45 mins and and afternoon nap around 12:00 that was another 45 minutes and eventually grew into an hour and a half. When the one nap came he sleeps about 2-2 1/2 hours in the afternoon and about 11- 11 1/2 hours at night.
Sleep training started on recognizing the sleepy signs and trying to get the wind down time a bit before so they are ready to go down. That is a brief-in a-nutshell answer.
Ups: My mom is visiting, such a big help. V is taking steps, saying 'belly button' and is SO hilarious, love her sense of humor. Her birthday is tomorrow.
Downs: She is still waking up at night. I really want that to magically stop on it's own. It's mostly just once, but sometimes it is at like 5 or 5:30am so then by the time I nurse her, put her down, she is up just over an hour later. So basically I started my day at 5. It's hard.
Naps. Right now she still takes two, but we can get by with one (afternoon) if we want to go do something/sightsee in the morning. She naps in her room, in her bed. I really wish she'd cozy up and sleep with us, but she really won't. Maybe at some point?
My Blog
Ups: E's being super cute and loving the pup, she can just watch her and laugh for minuets at a time! It's so cute to watch.
Downs: It's getting cooler outside and it's making it harder to take the pup out for walks as I can't keep anything on E's feet to keep them warm. I'm ordering a cover for the babyhawk which will hopefully help oh and E still isn't happy in the car! I ended up being a contortionist half the way back from Maastricht so she could nurse to sleep in the car seat, otherwise we would of had tears for 2 hours straight!
QOTD: She still naps in her swing, I can get a 45min nap in the morning and an hour + in the afternoon. If we're not home when it's nap time she just passes out in the Babyhawk. I really want to get her out of the swing but without it she naps on me or for 10 min in a bed which results in me being stuck with a baby on my boob or a very grumpy baby!
Hi there! I'm not on very often anymore, but when I am I do like to check up on you ladies. :-) We've been in the US for over 6 months now and still unemployed. Some days we consider moving back overseas, which we're definitely not opposed to, but still feel like we need to try settling here first. I wish we had jobs lined up before we left Japan, but not having a specific career makes it difficult. We are all doing well hanging in there though. Aeris is 16 months old now and currently getting caught up on her vaccines. She's our sunshine, she brings us so much joy even with all of our bad days. :-)
As for naps, she usually goes to sleep sometime between 1-3pm and sleeps between 60-90 minutes. She grabs her blanket and bear and asks for her paci when she's ready to nap, then we give her a cushion and she lays down on the living room floor and goes to sleep. Nighttime is similar, but not quite as easy.
WOW i haven't posted in one of these posts forever!!! well anyway - I'm back
Ups - just confirmed Genna's new daycare by our new house - I'm excited - it's a nice place & I know she'll like it there
Downs - she was up from 3-4am last night playing with her toy bunny and chatting - why why why? so tired today
naps - she naps just once now - after lunch about 12:30 - anywhere from an hour to 2, some rare times it'll be more than that. She naps in her cot, her stroller, or in the carseat. She very rarely will nap anywhere else, usually wants to be in my arms if she's really sick, but otherwise would rather have room to roll around in her cot
Posting for the first time since Aurelia's arrival! Life has been a little nuts lately and I'm sure you can all relate.
Ups: She is mostly a great sleeper, waking every 3-4 hours at night. We are also doing really well with BFing which was one of my biggest concerns pre-baby. I'm aso starting to use my cloth diapers and that is pretty fun so far. Also, having my mom here has been amazing! She's been keeping up on housework so DH and I can focus on being new parents. It's really great.
Downs: Not too many, I just miss my sleep on nights when she doesn't stay down well because of gas or other reasons. And, this isn't so much of a down as a worry, DH goes back to work this morning and my mom is moving from staying with us to staying in an apartment with my dad for the next couple weeks. This means I'll be alone with her for the first time ever and I'm a little concerned that I won't be good at it. Possibly a silly fear, but there it is.
QOTD: Aurelia will sleep pretty much the whole time we're out of the house. In the Ergo, the Moby, the stroller, or the carseat she just conks out as soon as she gets cozy or we start moving. But we aren't on any schedule yet so that probably doesn't help.
