$70 for a parking ticket?!?
So I got a parking ticket Friday night. I was downtown and parked in a metered area on the street. It was after 6, so I knew the meters were free. I checked the No Parking sign and I wasn't in those hours. Apparently, the dang meter was hooded with a "permits only" hood. So here I am, with a $70 effing ticket. When did parking tickets get that expensive? Last time I got one was college, and I think they were $25 then.
ETA: I did get a $10 in Michigan last trip up there
Re: $70 for a parking ticket?!?
; ) when were you in college?
DH got one of those a few weeks back. He had an event at the Crystal Ballroom and all of he "loading zone" spaces were parked in by non-loading idiots... so he had to parkt he truck and trailer across the street.
Did any of those loading zone violators get tickets?!?! Nope, but DH did.

Well I did get one in Royal Oak last time I was up there...I paid in 24 hours so it was only $10.
It was for backing in to a metered spot. Maybe I need to stop parking in metered areas...

the college campus ones aren't as expensive as the actual city ones, either. i remember having a "bunch" of parking tickets, and the amount i had to pay was $110.
there were these freaking 30-minute parking spaces at A&M, and i swear the ninja parking police (the evil PTTS) would mark your tire the second you pulled into the parking spot. i even got a ticket once when my tire went flat in a 30-minute spot. SERIOUSLY. i had to go to class! i didn't have time to change a damn tire.

What's wrong with an older woman?
Hahah!
Ah, the parking nazis. Loved those guys. NOT. I got pretty lucky in avoiding parking tickets on campus, but I got a couple in my time. Mostly on west campus when I had class but couldn't find parking and didn't have time to hike from the Rec or Reed.
that happened to me too!! but i contested it and they waived it :-)
