I'm curious to know the average monthly utility bills for a particular home that we're looking at... (Specifically for gas because we dont currently heat with gas, but also electric and water and sewer.
Is this an odd thing to ask? We have not put an offer in on this house yet but might.
Re: Is this an odd request?
Not at all ... we asked that before we bought our house.
We had lived in a condo previously and knew that the utility expenses would cost a lot more in a larger SFH, and we wanted to make sure we were accurately budgeting for how much it would cost us to live in the house.
We're renting our condo, and when looking for new tenants, we are often asked for an estimate on utility costs.

I don't know if it is the law here in MD or we had really nice sellers, but we were given an info sheet on this house with the property disclosures that showed how much they had spent on utilities for the prior year.
So no, I do not think it is an odd request at all.

Totally normal. The listing on the house we bought actually stated an average monthly hydro cost (electric heat), and the bills were available for us to look at on our second walk-through.
The thing to keep in mind is that if you're buying from a family of 4 and you're a family of 2, things like water consumption will probably be less.
