Cass & Others with building eye
Long story short, if you were choosing between these 3 options, which one would appeal to you most and why? Sq. ft. difference is less than 500. All would put water heater/washer/dryer etc. in basement and have a stairwell.

Re: Cass & Others with building eye
I would pick #1. I like the general layout of the house best, and I like how bedroom 2 and 3 are the same size (no dealing with kids fighting over the bigger bedroom!) and they are a decent size.
First of all, this may win for my favorite post ever. THis is even better than shirtless men for me. House porn.
Definitely not #3 unless I HAD to pick a narrow house for narrow lot. Main reason-living room feels disconnected from rest of space. I also think the door to the master bedroom is in a weird spot and the kitchen doesn't have its own window, and I love windows. Also, it has the smallest additional bedrooms.
I like #1, but would pick #2. Here's why:
#1: No real dining space. That kitchen will feel small very quickly with a table, and you are limited on space. Also, I prefer a little more privacy in the kitchen for when it's messy. I don't want to look at it all the time, and if there was nothing between the two rooms, I would not be able to relax as much in the living room. Also, living area is a bit smaller. I hate kitchen sinks in the corner (just awkward to me) and that window, though the light is nice, looks at a wall. I also don't like to walk through the master bath to get to the master closet.
#2: Bigger living space, real dining space, ISLAND IN THE KITCHEN (love) and kitchen is open to living room without being totally exposed. More windows. Bigger additional bedrooms.
I like #1. I can see the dining area being a problem, but I'd love to have the bedrooms split up. That way, as the kids get older, you're not hearing every little thing they do (and vice versa).
Where are you looking to build? Are you with a company? DH and I talked about it and looked around, but our house was perfect for us. This is one of the ones we looked at: http://www.eplans.com/craftsman_house-plans/HWEPL62458.hwx#
MyFitnessPal - Free Calorie Counter
I personally liked #3 (it would look good on our lot) but there are little things that bother me about it.
#2 is our overall favorite choice, all though I am not a fan of the 10 x 10 bedroom, and I made a poor couch purchase for the set up of this home last weekend. I like my furniture on walls, I'll just have to get over that. Whoops.
#1 is the most expensive and we probably shouldn't even consider it, but I love love love the kitchen windows to the front porch. But I hate that there is no space for a dining room table.
Dill - we have a family lot w/ our names on it out in Goshen/Loveland, we're really hoping that DH has a good winter, which will put us in a position to start building. We're looking at TK Homes, they've built a few houses in our family and DH's dad who is a retired builder is impressed by their prices/quality of work.
HAHA! I had the same thought with #1.
I kept thinking one of those rooms will be Zac's and it will smell FUNKY when he is a teenager and it's right by the front door!?!?!
