How old were your kids when you started this tradition? I so want to do it with Benjamin but don't really think he will "get" it.

Re: Elf on the Shelf
We are doing it this year. I don't think G will 'get it'. However, I'm really just doing it to make him do different things overnight that G (and the daycare kids) can find the next morning! (turning the milk green, etc).
My MIL got us the book, I haven't read it yet but I'm excited to!
I LOVE Christmas and how fun the season can be (love decorating, shopping, baking, presents, etc) but as I try to explain all of this to DS I hate how manipulative it all sounds and the lying.
We have the elf sitting on a shelf but after I told him about it and read the story ... hearing the words come out of my mouth ... made me cringe.
I don't think this is a tradition we keep. I think I am okay with the whole 'magic' aka lying about Santa to him but I don't like the manipulation.
