The Duggars...

Pregnant with their 20th baby. Wow...she is 45 years old and still going. I wondered if she would have any more after all of Josie's issues.

  • I just hope it doesn't take the death of one of her babies to make it stop.  At some point the risk is going to outweigh the "reward."
  • 10 was enough? I think 5 is more than sufficeint. By the end of this term, she'll have been preggers for 15 years of her life. Just... ew.

    Agreed.

  • I hadn't heard! Surprisingly I like the Duggars a lot. They are TOTALLY different from me & the way I live my life, but they seem like nice people.

I'm sure you guys will give me the side eye for this, but I'm glad she made it to 20. I like even numbers. 19 seemed odd & unfinished. If she was going to go that far I wanted her to get to the next "mile marker" I do hope now that she's at 20 she'll stop, but I'm glad she made it there.

I really hope this baby is healthy and they have no problems!

  • I like the Duggars. I really, really hope this baby is healthy. They are different from me but they seem happy and well adjusted.

  • Man, I had hoped that wasn't what this post was about.

And the problem with Josie's pregnancy wasn't Josie.  Michelle had super high blood pressure and they had to take Josie because of it.  Since Josie was just past 24 weeks gestational age she has all the health issues you've seen.

I don't see that magically changing with baby #20.  I really hoped they would stop.  With Josie's pregnancy there was a REAL risk to Michelle.  I hope that this baby can make it to a healthier delivery date.  But it is pretty much impossible for me to be happy for them when they've seen the risks and are continuing to make babies.

  • I'll first say that I absolutely think it's a lot and way too many in my book however it's not my religion so I think it's easier for me to say that of course.

I will say this when they had what 16 beore they got on tv they had no debt (and still don't) and were living in a smaller place because they built this house little by little with money coming in..so I give them props.

Yah I don't like how the older kids tend to raise the younger but that was no different in my household of 4 to be honest.  I do like how they teach the boys things only women would tend to do and the girls things guys would tend to do.

I was going to say what Dani said with the reason why they took her early was because of the blood pressure...and yes it sometimes can happen in more than one pregnancy but she had an emergency gallbladder surgery that caused her blood pressure to sky rocket...not saying that I would personally try again with that many children but it wasn't like it was just because Josie had issues...the sudden surgery (which a friend of mine has a 5 month old now and at about 4 months she had to have an emergency gallbladder surgery and be on bed rest for about 2 months and luckily she was able to continue on in the pregnancy..everyones different) led to all of it.

At 45 I hope that after this one she'll hit menopause...it does seem like they're spacing them out more so hopefully she'll be 46 when she delivers and isn't that about the time women start to go through it?  Watch she'll end up not getting menopause until she's like 52 and have 2 more.

  • I just read their response to people's criticisms (on people.com).  I feel bad that they have to hear so many negative things.  My biggest concern is the health/safety of her unborn children.  But honestly, I have no problem with a large family like that or the way they raise their children.  I think they do a phenomenal job with it and the kids all seem very happy/well taken care of, and I think they'll grow up to be responsible adults that positively contribute to society (and compared to a lot of the youth in this country, that's a good thing).

Although sometimes I think they're tooo overprotected/sheltered because they usually just say what they've heard their parents say about certain situations and often can't explain why they believe something.  I think they should be exposed to a bit more so they can make their own decisions about certain things.

  • I say a massive F CK YOU to anyone that thinks people with pre-e or high blood pressure in previous pregnancies SHOULDN'T get pregnant. That is a load of crap. My child deserves to have siblings and having blood pressure issues will not stop me from conceiving again. If that bothers, oh well, it is my body and you can judge me all you want. She has a higher risk of uterine rupture and yes, that is scary but there is risk for life threatening things in ALL pregnancies, even with the "healthiest" of women.

These people are not causing some huge drain on the public. They live responsibly. They will be alright.

And yes, Kare, 19 is a prime number. That would be freaking weird.

I do think she implied in an article she didn't think they would be able to get pregnant again bc it seems like her cycles are already slowing for menopause.

They will be exposed to things they want as adults. It is our job as parents to choose our children's exposure.

So will you feel the same about me when we concieve a #2? We have seen the risks, bedrest, pre-e, NICU, ventilator and we are trying again.

    So

    So

No.  You are a different case from the Duggars.  You aren't "doing God's will" and having another child because of that will.  You are trying to give your only child a sibling.  Will I worry about you when you get pregnant with #2, of course.  But I'll also be happy for you.

And I don't care that the Duggars have so many kids.  They aren't living off assistance and are teaching their kids to be responsible contributing adults.  My concern is ONLY for Michelle and the unborn baby's health.  If something happens to them then Jim Bob is left a widow with 19 children.

    So

No, there's a huge difference between you - a thirty-ish (not sure your exact age) year old woman trying to have her second child; and her, a forty-five year old woman having her 20th child.
