Last minute - Weekend Getaway - anniversary

Please help us decide on a place to go this weekend (friday thru Sunday for our anniversary weekend).

We were thinking about gruene, fredericksburg, san antonio, galveston or possibly just downtown houston.

We like wineries, relaxing, and activties or nightlife.

Re: Last minute - Weekend Getaway - anniversary

  • My husband and I stayed at the Omni hotel in Houston for our anniversary. it was within our budget, and we had a great time. In the morning we would get up and work out together, and then go out for lunch in a new restaurant. (I tried spanish food for the first time in Rice Village!) we took a dance class we found on groupon. The Tasting Room is close by (a wine tasting restaurant, it was great) and at night we would come back and just relax in the pool with no one else around. Just us. It was nice. Whatever you guys decide to do, remember to celebrate the reason why you're on a getaway, which is your anniversary. Making it another year is a big deal, especially nowadays! So, Congrats!

  • If you want to splurge, how about The Four Seasons in Austin or Hotel St. Cecilia in Austin?
  • We went to New Braunfels last weekend for Wurstfest, which is super fun!!!

Then we went to Gruene and walked the shops, had lunch at the Gristmill. Super cute shops and wine lounges there. We didn't get a chance to go to Gruene Hall but I really wanted to. They had the Tour de Wurst or something like that.

I believe Wurstfest is through this coming weekend. Lots of yummy fried foods, Beer, music, dancing. Crazy hats and lots of lederhozen (sp?).

  • All the places you are considering are good. it depends on what you like.

For our anniversary we just went down to Galveston for the day. Unfortunately one of the few rainy days in the last several months. If you go to Galveston I highly recommend the brunch at the Hotel Galvez - expensive but good ($37 pp I think but unlimited mimosas). We got a reservation for the veranda so we had a view of the beach.

In Austin, DH wanted to stay at the Driskill for our wedding night but with OOT guests we wanted to stay around to see them. It is on our list when a deal comes up.
