Homeland 11/6

There was so much happening in this episode it was hard to keep up.

Did Saul slip the razor blade? Is that why he wants to go back into the field? To runaway?

Carrie and Brody in the car? OMG. I knew they had tension but I didn't think she would give in so easily.

How did Brody pass the polygraph?

I am really enjoying this show.

  • Did Saul slip the razor blade? Is that why he wants to go back into the field? To runaway?

No, I don't think so. I think he just wanted to transfer to stay with his wife/save his marriage since she was moving to India.

Carrie and Brody in the car? OMG. I knew they had tension but I didn't think she would give in so easily.

Wowza. I was a little surprised, but not that much. I bet she's just trying to get close to him so that she can pick his brain/find proof that he's been turned.

How did Brody pass the polygraph?

There are several tactics to fake out the test that I've seen on movies, etc. One is to step on a tack to increase your heartrate during the "truth" questions so that your "lying" heartrate looks to be in your normal pattern. I knew the second that he started the test that he had been coached in how to avoid setting off the trigger. And I audibly gasped when he looked straight into the camera and said "No" about cheating on his wife. I wonder if he's on to her?

  • This episode was so good! I was pleasantly surprised with how fast Carrie and Brody moved into that situation, but I don't know where they are going with the story line. It's a total conflict of interest, so there's no way she can prove he's lying on the "official record", without ruining her credibility. It seems like she's just out to prove it to herself and possibly go rogue or something.  Can't wait for next week!!

  • I think Brody passed the polygraph because Carrie told him what the purpose of the polygraphs were the night before, right before they hooked up in her car.  He wasn't caught off guard when asked about slipping the razor blade.  And/Or, he's been well trained on taking polygraph tests because he obviously lied about not cheating on his wife.

I would not rule Saul out at this point.  His first polygraph did not go so well and he has been giving Carrie a hard time throughout the season.  He will give her just enough slack only to reel her in when she's on to something.  There's definitely a mole within the CIA because only they knew about tailing the professor on his way home from the university (when his wife was called and signaled him to keep driving with the American flag).

I think Carrie's motive for sleeping with Brody is to keep tabs on him, post surveillance cameras.  Plus, she's got a little bit of the crazies and her past choices in men have been questionable.

Ditto all of this. I just watched it and my heart is still racing--what an episode! I am hating that Saul is seeming more and more shady. He didn't even pass his name in the first polygraph-that threw up red flags for me for sure. My H thinks he's in on it somehow and I don't want to believe it, lol. This show has my mind buzzing for the whole week after I watch it--so freaking good.

  • My thoughts -

I don't know that I believe it's Saul.  I think he was just in such a moment of frenzy w/ the first polygraph that he wasn't relaxed enough for it.

I think this is all to make us THINK it's him, when it will turn out to be either Estes or the guy that Estes asked to get closer to Carrie.  They are so not even on the radar right now.

Brody-  he knew about the questions, but I also think he's been trained to be able to pass lie detectors.

Him and Carrie.... I don't know that this is really a "plan" of hers, to be honest.  Maybe she'll try to use it to her advantage, but at the same time - it's clearly a huge conflict of interest, and as she has already found out - she knows he's lying about cheating on his wife, but she can't very well tell anyone how she knows.

SO - what's really the point?  She already has seen that she is getting nowhere w/ her suspicions.  Finding "proof" by sleeping w/ him isn't going to help her.

I think this is more a story line of how screwed up her character is and that her issues go deeper than we realize.

  • I think Carrie's suspicions about a POW turning, whether it's actually Brody or not, will be solidified more next episode when the CIA interrogates Aileen (she gets arrested at the Mexican border in next week's scenes).  I really hope so, for Carrie's sake (professionally and personally).

-I don't believe it's him either. They are trying to lead it that way though.

-I also agree that I think it's one of these 2.

Brody-  he knew about the questions, but I also think he's been trained to be able to pass lie detectors.

-Yes, he was probably trained; additionally it helped that Carrie told him before the fact what the intent of the detector was, which was another benefit to 'prepare'.

-She's really starting to annoy me. They are definitely also leading up to her getting caught on the anti-psychotics when she does eventually find something promising. This and the affari w/Brody will lead to all loss of credibility.

I agree with all of this. Everything is pointing to Saul right now, and I don't believe it would be that obvious.

  • Another way to beat a polygraph is to ask a random question in your head.

So when the guy asks you "did you kill your husband?" in your head you ask yourself "do you have a BMW?" and respond no.

Great episode.  This is the show I look forward to all week.  :)
