a poll about the tooth fairy

I read this today, which basically breaks down what children receive per tooth from the tooth fairy depending on where they live in the UK.

"The luckiest children are those living in London, followed by Cambridge (?5.00), Cardiff (?4.75), Liverpool (?4.50) and Manchester (?4.35).

The poll found that the Tooth Fairy is least generous when she visits Hull, followed by Portsmouth (10p), York (10p), Glasgow (11p) and Nottingham (11p)."

I can't believe some kids get ?5 a tooth!

So....

1. Are you doing the tooth fairy thing with your kid?

2. How much are you thinking of leaving behind per tooth?

Re: a poll about the tooth fairy

  • 1. Are you doing the tooth fairy thing with your kid? To be honest, I've not given it much thought, but yes, probably.

    2. How much are you thinking of leaving behind per tooth? I think either 50p or ?2 per tooth, but only because they are my favorite coins.

  • We are going to do it, but we will do a dollar coin per tooth. ?5 is ridiculous.

  • I think we will.

No idea how much money. 10p seems a bit cheap though.

Probably 2 euro. When I was a kid we got 50p.

  • 1  I'd like to but I have no idea what DH's view is on this.

    2.  probably a pound.

  • 1. Yes

    2. Probably $1-$5 depending on the size of the tooth.

  • 1. Yes, we'll be doing it.

    2. Not sure... perhaps a euro or 50cent... we got 10p when we were kids (Irish currency pre-euro!). ?5 is a bit much considering that's an average!!

We will do it, too. I was thinking $1 as well and I like the idea of the coins. That is cute.  And I agree that 5GBP is insane. I mean maybe if you were sticking a little toy under there that cost under $5 I could see how you got there but that is it.

Don't you think that its probably because those are more impoverished areas, though, and the parents are trying their best to put ANYTHING under the kids' pillow?

  • 1) I plan to do the tooth fairy thing, but we had little pillows with a tiny pocket and we could leave the tooth hanging on our door knob. I will have to figure out how to make my kids the little tooth pillow (to make it more convenient for the tooth fairy)

    2) I will probably leave $1 for a regular tooth and maybe $5 for a molar? I never really thought too much about the amount, but $1 hardly buys anything anymore!

  • I had one of those tooth pillows too. My Grandma made it for me.

1 - We plan to do it for M, maybe I'll try to make him a tooth dragon pillow or something. Here they also call the Tooth Fairy la Petite Souris (Little Mouse).

2 - We've never thought about it, but I guess 1 or 2 euros per tooth.

  • Maybe, never really thought about it.  I've been focused on how to get my Jewish children not to spill the beans about Santa Claus to their Christian cousins since they are my husband's kids...

  • 1.  We'll probably do tooth fairy, if I can get DH to agree to it.  He hates all of those made up characters, Santa included.

    2.  I have a little while to go with this one.  I always got Barbie outfits, but I think that a 1 or 2 Euro coin per tooth is pretty cute.

  • Meh, we'll probably do ?5/tooth. It's not like they get an allowance, it's really going to be their only source of income!

  • Yes, we will. It's only a small thing, and I think it will be fun.

Ha - yes, this is likely to be me too!

  • 5 quid for a tooth?!?! Get outta town!

We will be doing the toothfairy thing, but I'm thinking more like $1 a tooth. But maybe I'm cheap.

  • Yes, we will do the tooth fairy. I guess it would be a gold coin (either $1 or $2) depending on what is in my wallet that night!

  • Yup, we'll do the tooth fairy.  We're planning on a $10 coin for the front teeth & $5 coin for the others -- BUT, HK$10 = US$1.28.  Those are just the largest coins we have.

  • Yes, we'll do the tooth fairy. We'll stick with coins, either ?1 or ?2 per tooth. My brothers and I got $1 per tooth.
