celebrating bosses day

Is it appropriate to have a Bosses Day Lunch and have the company pay for it?

Re: celebrating bosses day

  • Is there really a bosses day?

    Seriously?

That's like having kids' day to me.

  • I thought I might have heard of it before- and then I realized it was because of this-

"Hallmark did not offer a Boss' Day card for sale until 1979. It increased the size of its National Boss' Day line by 90 percent in 2007."

I definitely seem to remember a giant explosion of Boss' Day crap one year and thinking, this has to be a joke/totally made up.

I can't say that in my 10+ years of being an employee w/ a boss I ever celebrated Boss' Day.

  • I think it's tacky to have the company pay for it.  If you do anything for your boss it should be from you.  My boss won't be getting anything.

I think that if the company pays for some sort of lunch for Secretary's/Admin. Professionals Day, that doing a lunch (that everyone can enjoy) for Boss' Day is NBD.

but I still think boss' day is weird.  I mean, I had jobs where I had like 4 boss'- what would I have done then? bought them all cards?

  • Boss' Day was a month ago.  We didn't do anything at our work.  I think there might have been a card passed around for the President, but that's about it.
  • We don't observe it in my office. My boss doesn't do anything for us for Administrative Professionals Day so we certainly don't do anything for Bosses Day.
  • I thought bosses day was back in October? At least that's when we celebrated it. We actually took our boss out to lunch and paid for it ourselves.

It was in October.  One of our offices hosted a lunch for everyone and posted pics online yesterday, so it got me thinking.
