Mobigo, Leapfrog

Ok ladies I know there have been lots of discussion about these, but why did you choose the product you did?  TIA

Re: Mobigo, Leapfrog

  • I went with the Leapfrog Leappad explorer (the ipad looking one).

I played with them in the store to see which felt most intuitive.

let my kids play with them in the store to see which they were drawn to and were easy to use.

I googled to compare features of several of the gaming systems online, (vtech vs leapfrog vs mobigo, etc and also regular explorer vs leappad explorer) because there were certain features I wanted it to include.

I checked reviews to make sure there weren't any major annoyances that I should be aware of.

I also considered what kinds of games came with each. I wanted to be able to get games that weren't necessarily character driven, wanted them readily available, a nice variety, and fairly educational.

I also looked for a product that would grow with her a bit.

That's how I landed on the Leappad. It fits my almost 4 year olds needs the best. Katen can practice writing on it now among other things which I feel is nice. She's also got ipad envy and is always stealing it away from DH, so hopefully this will help.  :)

  • We chose the MobiGo.  Will's only 3, and it seemed to have more "easy" games for that age.  He also loved it the most in the store, calling it a laptop.  He got it on Saturday, and so far loves one of the games that came with it.  It does eat batteries though.  We don't have any ipads or anything for him to covet, just my laptop, hence why he loves the MobiGo.  he can open and close it like mine.  It also stores really small.  We got it for long car rides, and we only have a car for us all to ride in, so small and compact was a must.  We got the ac adapter, as we already have an ac/car adapter thing for the car (you plug it into the car, and it has a spot for you to plug in 3 prong plugs), so we don't eat so many batteries on 10 hour car rides.  I'm a little bummed by the character only games right now, but thoughtt hey might come out with more later, but at the same time Will loves them, and about when he outgrows it, Chance will like them, so I'm ok with that.  I can report better after Thanksgiving when we give it a good try on that drive.  So far William's only con is that he likes to rest his whole hand on the screen, and then it thinks his thumb or hand touched somewhere instead of doing what his pointer finger did.  But he's learning where to put his hand to prevent that.

  • We also went with the Leapfrog for the reasons Mrs.Reem posted.
