CenturyLink/Qwest?

Does anyone have CenturyLink/Qwest for internet services? If so, have you been happy with their service? Their ads make it seem like they're significantly cheaper than mediacom.

Re: CenturyLink/Qwest?

  • While we don't have internet @ home, my mom's had Qwest for YEARS! And has never had an issue. They live in the country, so service isn't always the greatest, but they've always had internet-given the power isn't out.

  • We have them for internet for the past 6 months and have been really happy with them.  Their speeds are great, and the price is definitely better than mediacom.  The only thing I don't like is their customer service department is only open from 8am-6pm.

  • We had Qwest and were very happy with them.  CenturyLink bought them and now we lose internet service at least twice a day each day.  Its only out for five minutes or so, but its very frustrating.  I have called customer service and they say its because they are busy updating the wiring and its a temporary issue.  Of course, temporary has been going on for over a month.  I was actually going to call in again today.

  • We have Quest DSL and while our issues have always been fixed quickly, they're a bunch if idiots. When we moved in they told us internet was no problem. Then we found there were no lines in our neighborhood. They fixed that by stringing an internet line from the street that runs behind us... an acre+ away and through our yard. The deer kept tripping on it, etc all winter.  lol! Then we lost our bandwidth to find out that someone else got hooked up to our fast service and had swapped us down to a slower service. They couldn't figure out which house had our service so they just hooked us up again for the second time. Que the acre long wire, dude tromping through the woods, etc. Additionally, their customer service likes to treat DH like he doesn't know what he's talking about when we call with a problem. DH always knows exactly what the problem is because he works in IT/Telecom all day every day, so he generally has to get a manager before our issues are fixed. Even with these issues, I like Quest better than what we had with mediacom for a short time when we were in our rental. It sucked big time. Tons and tons of outages and too many people on one line which made it slow.

  • We've used Qwest for the past couple years and have never had any problems. I'm not sure exactly what we pay because we have it bundled with our cell phones and direct tv.

  • We use them and I have been really happy with our service. A couple weeks ago on a Sunday I had some trouble with internet not working. They had somebody out the next morning and fixed it quickly. That is the only time we have had trouble so far and we have had them about a year.

  • I had Qwest DSL for a few years before DH and I moved in together. I always had better service with DSL than we have with cable, and it was cheaper. I couldn't convince him to switch and I'm not passionate enough about where we get our internet to make a big issue out of it, but if it were entirely up to me, we'd switch to DSL. Helps that I lived in an established neighborhood about a mile from a Qwest hub.

  • We have them and our internet goes out all. the. time.  We are looking into other options, but there really aren't a lot of better ones.

  • CenturyLink took over about the exact same time we moved here (in July).  We haven't once had problems with any of our service - so no complaints here.

  • We've been with Qwest/CL since late 2006.  We started having some major internet issues early this year, dropping out and really slow.  We ended up upgrading our service to get home phone service and the bundled package had better speed.  Didn't quite fix the issue, so I had to call a few times, and it ended up being an equipment issue on their part, which they fixed very quickly.  Usually the first person I talk to when calling is the idiot, but then once I get transferred to an actual service tech, it's ok.  DH is a computer programmer, so we know what's wrong when we call.  The tech people who have come out have been very respectful and courteous, professional and nice.

I even got good service when we upgraded our bundle, then the next week they offered a better price for a better internet speed and more phone features.  I called, and they upgraded us to the intro/new mbr price, no issues.

So we've had some issues, but none that were deal breakers.

  • We've had Qwest since July 2008. My brother works for them, so whenever I have had a problem he can tell me exactly what number to call. We've had issues twice but once it was our issue (wiring in house when we moved in) and the other was fixed quickly.

As far as I can tell it's cheapest when we don't have cable or land line.

For those experiencing temporary issues- I know when the switch was made, my brother started working tons of overtime fixing/updating things (he's a tech in CB), so I am not sure if everything is the same here.

  • We've had Qwest internet bundled with DirecTV since 2007, and we can't really complain...sometimes our internet is slow but I think that's when our computer is getting bogged down and needs to be de-fragged.  Customer service has always been good when I've had to call.
